Gang Of Youths
Thursday 26th October at New Slang, 9:00pm
Following the UK release of their second studio album Gang Of Youths play at New Slang.
The Australian (now based in London) indie-rockers with infectious pop influences hit number 1 back at home with this album and we're excited to have them visit New Slang for the first time. They've got great hooks and melodies with bombastic and gripping electronics giving their tunes an extra charge. It's an eclectic mix of sounds but if you're into the likes of The Walkmen, Nothing But Thieves, Catfish & The Bottlemen or The National then there's something here for you.
"poetically explores the human experience in all its bleakness and triumph, confusion and clarity, heartbreak and joyousness. A remarkable odyssey of an album that’ll engulf you, leaving a bewildered smile on your face, a tear in your eye and a heart that’s full." - Rolling Stone Australia, James Clements
"A stirring collection of music that places Gang of Youths another rank higher in the echelons of Aussie rock bands" - Triple J
After the show, it's New Slang as usual where you can expect to hear the likes of The 1975, Catfish & The Bottlemen, CHVRCHES, The Amazons and many more until 2AM.
Times TBC, but we expect doors to be at 9:00pm with Gang Of Youths on stage at 10:30pm, please check back.
Album + Ticket combos are available from £10 or more ticket options are available here.

The Hempolics
Tuesday 17th October at Banquet Records, 6:00pm
Following the release of their new album The Hempolics play in the shop.
Bringing a flood of organic, free-flowing and lush rootsy-reggae vibes in the form of their new album Kiss, Cuddle & Torture: Volume 1. Massive bass, irresistible grooves as they fuse genres together.
The album entitled ‘Kiss, Cuddle & Torture Vol. 1’ was recorded in a back to basics fashion throughout the bedrooms and home studios of the band producing an infectious mash-up of Reggae, Electro, Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Rock and Pop. Although the weather out might be dull London-side it’s strictly sunshine vibes, resplendent with huge hooks and festival-friendly choruses.
The Hempolics are out to put those organic rootsy vibes back into music; with their fat radio-friendly hooks, bumping soundsystem bass and a wanderlusty, ineffably real sound all of their own...
In-store Grade B.
Anyone is welcome but priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Kiss, Cuddle & Torture: Volume 1 from us.

The Go! Team
Thursday 18th January at New Slang, 9:00pm
The night before their new album is released The Go! Team play at New Slang.
This will be the band's first New Slang visit and we're excited to have them down to celebrate their new album that follows up from 2015's The Scene Between. Infectious and massive indie-pop tunes that take on a marching-band styled sound on this record, with plenty of soul stomping sounds, hip hop beats and plenty of joy.
Stacking up sousaphones, glockenspiels and steel drums, breakbeats and SEMICIRCLE is a kaleidoscopic cacophony, almost as if the sound itself is bent and refracted in the metallic curves of a trumpet, comforting and intoxicating at the same time. One moment we hear the kids from Detroit channelling Rescue Me’ and ‘SOS’ on ‘Mayday’, a morse-code- inspired soul belter about a love emergency, then there’s Ninja unleashing a volley of verbal stingers on ‘She Got Guns’ or the lo-fi R&B vocal for ‘Chain Link Fence’; SEMICIRCLE brings together unlikely elements to create a euphoric, exhilarating experience.
After the show, it's New Slang as usual where you can expect to hear the likes of The 1975, Foals, The Vaccines, Wolf Alice, alt-J and many more until 2AM.
Support is coming from Birdsworth.

Best Ex
Thursday 2nd November at Banquet Records, 5:00pm
Following the release of the new EP, Best Ex plays in the shop.
Mariel has been in the shop before under the name Candy Hearts, now continuing on with her excellent blend of bittersweet and charming indie-pop driven tunes full of sugary and fun melodies as Best Ex.
To me, Best Ex is taking everything that Candy Hearts is -- everything that I am -- and giving it a breakup makeover. Only I didn't break up with a lying, good-for-nothing human being, I broke up with my lying, good-for-nothing anxiety. To me, this record is that light at the end of the tunnel I've been trying to find for the last two and a half years. Making it felt like falling and figuring out my wings actually hadn't been clipped like I thought. I'm so happy to have this finally be out there and to have it stand, where it belongs, alongside all of our other songs, which I consider a deep part of who I am.
In-store Grade C.
Anyone is welcome but priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Ice Cream Anti Social from us.
