Tuesday 26th May
at Bacchus, 9:00pm (18+)
We're hosting a special album listening party for the new Paul McCartney album just before it's release. This event will take place at our local cellar club Bacchus, so we can hear it loud. We'll play the new album in full from 9:30pm - then we're gonna dive into some classics from The Beatles, Wings and solo hits! Attendees will get the chance to pick up tote bags, posters, postcards and stickers (while stocks last!). For avoidance of doubt, Paul McCartney will not be in attendance.'The Boys of Dungeon Lane' is a collection of rare and revealing glimpses into memories never-before shared, along with some newly inspired love songs, from one of the most culturally significant figures of our time. These extraordinary new songs find Paul writing with rare openness about his childhood in post-war Liverpool, the resilience of his parents, and early adventures shared with George Harrison and John Lennon long before the world had ever heard of Beatlemania.-Please note: Bacchus is an 18+ venue, so please bring photo ID or you won't be able to get in! Doors 9:00pm with the album playback starting at 9:30pm.This is an in-person event. Promo items are to be collected at Bacchus - we cannot provide these for customers who do not attend.Bacchus, Union Street, KT1 1RP

Frank Turner
The Lamb Devizes, 2006
Available over the counter only. It’s 2006, and the charts are awash with what will become known as landfill indie. Somewhere in backwater Townsville UK, an already road worn veteran is making their furtive steps into a solo career that unbeknown to them will have a major and lasting impact on the UK music scene.Frank Turner is already famous for searing live performances that have put his band right in the front and center of UK alternative music. Now he has to do it all again. Armed with only a guitar, many opinions and a reading list that would make your local library wince, he struck out, willing to perform anywhere that would have him.Documented here is the genuine sound of a guy learning his craft. Nights like these are found across the UK every night of the week. Immortalized in lyrics that would appear later in his career, his “bedrooms, bars and bunker squats ” work ethic took him to unknown towns, like Devizes.Devizes had a rich history in live music when it was primarily known as a military / squaddie town. Live performances from Status Quo, Ginger Baker's Airforce, Curved Air (twice), Yes (twice), Van der Graaf Generator, Thin Lizzy, Fleetwood Mac, King Crimson, Rory Gallagher, Mott the Hoople, all in 1971 alone. But it wasn’t until 2004 that its life was breathed back into its history, when Foals, LostAlone, Frank Turner, The Struts, The Computers, and more began performing here. Putting the town firmly back on the touring circuit. This cassette documents, warts and all, the chaotic approach to small back room bar live shows. The rawness of the songs, the rowdiness of the audience. Included in the earnest set list are two covers. One from his peer Chris T -T and a Sun Kil Moon cover too. Both showcase Frank ’s knowledge and passion for underground music!

Each track is driven by honest lyricism and warm instrumentation, moving seamlessly between stripped-back acoustic moments and fuller, band-led arrangements.Exploring themes of love, loss, and resilience, the album carries a cinematic quality that draws listeners in from the first note to the last. It's a confident and heartfelt record that reflects an artist fully immersed in his craft, bridging storytelling and song with sincerity and character, and standing as a strong addition to his growing musical catalogue.Kiefer Sutherland is a Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actor whose career spans over four decades in film and television. Alongside his acclaimed acting, he has established himself as a respected recording artist and touring musician, earning chart-topping success in the UK Americana and Country charts. It marks the British band’s first album in eight years, a reunion with their original label Run For Cover Records, and a return to making music with the unbridled passion and creative intuition that’s always animated their best material. Since forming in 2009, Basement have always been the same five friends - vocalist Andrew Fisher, guitarists Alex Henery and Ronan Crix, bassist Duncan Stewart, and drummer James Fisher - with the same alchemic bond. The only thing that’s changed in recent years is their renewed sense of purpose, and their new album makes that loudly apparent. Wired is the most dynamic, daring, and inspired Basement have ever sounded, while also retaining the timeless fundamentals of the band’s singular sound: growling guitars, rousing choruses, striking emotional verbiage.Basement are back firing on all cylinders, but they’re not interested in rehashing old glories. The whole band was adamant that Wired had to be their most decisive artistic statement yet. Title-track “Wired” is the most urgent they’ve ever sounded, a surefire live staple propelled by needling guitars, a slugging drumbeat, and a skyscraping hook that finds Fisher’s voice in peak form. “Broken By Design” has the opposite temperament: dusky, delicate, bass-led, but still quintessentially Basement in its immediate catchiness and moody character. Nothing on Wired sounds stagnant. Not one part feels undercooked. The band looked to a smorgasbord of adventurous heroes for inspiration (REM, Interpol, Smashing Pumpkins, to name a few) without ever sounding like they’re imitating any one band - not even themselves. The record’s title condenses all of this into a single word. The textural connotations of Wired - metallic, sharp, jagged - evoke the album’s steely sonics, and on a more conceptual level, the title speaks to Basement’s unshakeable tenacity. An analog band who’ve thrived in an increasingly digital world without resting on the comforts of nostalgia. Five friends who’ve persisted through several breakups and breakthroughs, but have only grown as people and evolved as a musical unit. At this point, Basement have to accept their fate: they’re wired for this shit.

Bruce Soord
Tuesday 19th May
at Banquet Records, 6:00pm
CANCELLEDTo celebrate the release of the new album, Bruce Soord visits Kingston to play an in-store set.As founding member & principal songwriter of The Pineapple Thief, Bruce Soord has spent the last decade steadily refining a voice that balances emotional directness with musical restraint. 'Ghosts In The Park', his latest solo album, is his most personal & unguarded work to date: a record shaped by loss, memory, & the quiet spaces that reveal themselves when life continues to move while everything else appears to stop.Written over a two-year period while Soord was touring extensively with The Pineapple Thief, the album emerged in hotel rooms, unfamiliar cities, & moments of enforced solitude. Against this backdrop, Soord was navigating the drawn- out decline & eventual death of his father, alongside the continued progression of his mother's Alzheimer's. These experiences form the emotional spine of 'Ghosts In The Park' - grief in motion, memory surfacing unpredictably, & the quiet determination to keep moving forward.Acoustic guitar sits at the centre of the record, often captured in raw, first- take performances recorded directly in hotel rooms before being carefully integrated with studio recordings. This tension between fragility & control defines the album's sound. Tracks such as "Concepcion," "Meet Me On The Downs," & the title piece were conceived in specific places - Chile, Hamburg, Oberhausen - each location leaving a subtle imprint on the music. Parks, harbours, & anonymous rooms become recurring settings where past & present coexist, intersected by fleeting moments of clarity amongst the disorder.-Performance expected to start shortly after time shown.Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of the new album from us. If there's space on the day for more people, we'll let you know!
