Taylor Swift
folklore
One of our favourite albums of 2020! "This took me by surprise but the combination of earworms, great production and storytelling songwriting found me just at the right time, or I just like weeping along to ‘Exile’, who knows, but I love it." - Claire - CD + LP are 'in the trees' editions. The surprise released, eighth full length album from the iconic Taylor Swift, following on from 2019's super colourful record Lover. The new album folklore features production assistance and guest spots from the likes of Aaron Dessner of the National, Bon Iver and regular collaborator, Jack Antonoff. “Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with.” - Taylor Swift ‘Folklore’ feels fresh, forward-thinking and, most of all, honest. The glossy production she’s lent on for the past half-decade is cast aside for simpler, softer melodies and wistful instrumentation. It’s the sound of an artist who’s bored of calculated releases and wanted to try something different. Swift disappeared into the metaphorical woods while writing ‘Folklore’, and she’s emerged stronger than ever. - NME

SAULT
UNTITLED (Black Is)
One of our favourite albums of 2020!"There couldn't be a more timely album of 2020, direct, political, amplifying the BLM message, Sault are doing things their own way, to a back drop of exquisite funk, disco and electronic beats." - Mike-The mysterious Sault return with album number three that was announced when the whole album was played on BBC 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson’s show. This is the most essential album for 2020. The 18 track album is an absolute joy whilst delivering a powerful message. Each tracks title nods towards revolution, expression and a celebration of black culture. The sound once again mixes R&B, funk, soul and hip-hop together. For fans of classic soul, ESG and groove.

Khruangbin
Mordechai
One of our favourite albums of 2020!"Khruangbin rarely disappoint, another sure fire album, weaving a rich tapestry of world music with their own signature dubby groove, the big change this time is that vocals feature on every track!" - Mike-The highly anticipated third album from the excellent psychedelic, funk-blues-surf-dub-rock trio. This time they've got something to say, moving away from the pure instrumental sound of previous albums, with vocals on every track. Beautiful stuff! Khruangbin has always been multilingual, weaving far-flung musical languages like East Asian surf-rock, Persian funk, and Jamaican dub into mellifluous harmony. But on its third album, it’s finally speaking out loud. Mordechai features vocals prominently on nearly every song, a first for the mostly instrumental band. It’s a shift that rewards the risk, reorienting Khruangbin’s transportive sound toward a new sense of emotional directness, without losing the spirit of nomadic wandering that’s always defined it.

Phoebe Bridgers
Punisher
One of our favourite albums of 2020! "Punisher is a masterclass in songwriting, vulnerability and transcending the restrictions of 'genre', solidifying her position as one of the most important and exciting artists around." - Jez - Indies exclusive LP is on 'blue / green / swirl' coloured vinyl. The hugely anticipated second full length album from Phoebe Bridgers. We were big fans of her 2017 debut full length Stranger In The Alps and it's been excellent to watch her grow and release music through boygenius and Better Oblivion Community Center. For Punisher, she has grasped a formidable crew of guests including Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, Conor Oberst, Nick Zinner, Jenny Lee Lindberg, Harrison Whitford, Christian Lee Hutson and more. Phoebe Bridgers doesn’t write love songs as much as songs about the impact love can have on our lives, personalities, and priorities. Punisher, her fourth release and second solo album, is concerned with that subject. To say she writes about heartbreak is to undersell her blue wisdom, to say she writes about pain erases all the strange joy her music emanates. The arrival of Punisher cements Phoebe Bridgers as one of the most clever, tender and prolific songwriters of our era. Bridgers is the rare artist with enough humor to deconstruct her own meteoric rise. Repeatedly praised by publications like The New Yorker, The New York Times, GQ, Pitchfork, The Fader, The Los Angeles Times and countless others, Bridgers herself is more interested in discussing topics on Twitter, deadpanning meditations on the humiliating process of being a person, she presents a sweetly funny flipside to the strikingly sad songs she writes. Fittingly, Punisher is fascinated with, and driven by, that kind of impossible tension. Whether it’s writing tweets or songs, Bridgers’s singular talent lies in bringing fierce curiosity to slimy and painful things, interrogating them until they yield up answers that are beautiful and absurd, or faithfully reporting the reality that, sometimes, they are neither. On the album’s epic, freewheeling closer, “I Know The End,” Bridgers orchestrates wails and horns, drums and electric guitar into a sumptuous doomsday swirl, culminating in her own final whispered roar. This is Punisher in a nutshell: devastating elegance punctuated by a moment of deeply campy self-awareness.

Dua Lipa
Future Nostalgia
One of our favourite albums of 2020! "Glittery, euphoric hope in dark times. Disco strings, cowbells, power pop - Dua Lipa distilled everything brilliant from the last 50 years of pop into a modern classic" - Jane - The LP Boxset includes the album on 'neon yellow' coloured vinyl, a 20-page photography book, an art print + thank you note from Dua, a tattoo transfer replica of Dua's actual 'Future Nostalgia' tattoo, stickers and 1 of 5 polaroid images. The second full length album from the acclaimed artist Dua Lipa, following on from her 2017 self-titled debut full length. Offering another dose of her high-octane blend of pop , but this time showcasing more of her influences to create an infectious and empowering disco-dance-pop powerhouse record. Musically, Future Nostalgia has been described by Lipa as a "dancercise class". She stated that its songs will incorporate genres of disco and pop, inspired by artists such as Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Moloko, Blondie and Outkast. Lipa has long been known as an outspoken artist, standing up for what she believes IN including women’s rights. The female experience is one colours ‘Future Nostalgia’ from start to finish, be that through a sense of empowerment or observations on the inequality women face. “No matter what you do, I’m gonna get it without ya / I know you ain’t used to a female alpha,” she asserts on the title track. The confidence in her voice gives you no reason to doubt her.
