The Violets
Athens Georgia 1988-1992 [RSD20]
This is an exclusive release for Record Store Day 2020. Available over the counter from Saturday 20th June. Any remaining stock will be available online from Sunday 28th June, strictly one per customer. The Violets were a punk/indie band from Athens, GA, mainly active from 1988-1992. The band was best known for their song 'I Hate The Grateful Dead,” which briefly charted on the College CMJ charts in 1991. That original 7" record is a big collectors item these days and the song has remained quite popular, even among Grateful Dead purists, who view the song as a humorous poke at the obsessive fan culture that still surrounds the Dead. Back in the 1990s Grateful Dead -based merchandise shops were even known to carry the record. Their socially aware track “Forsyth” called out the racial inequality and disparity found in Forsyth County GA in the late 1980s, a place known to be hostile to people of color and homosexuals. Both tracks are included in this collection of ten of the Violets’ most memorable songs, several recorded in the early ‘90s by David Barbe (Sugar, Mercyland), all chosen by fans and the band themselves. 500 copies are being released for Record Store Day, hand numbered and pressed on violet vinyl.

Various Artists - Land Of Sensations & Delights: Psych Pop Sounds Of White Whale Records [1965-1970] [2LP] (gatefold, limited to 2000, indie exclusive)
Featuring 26 hits and rarities from the '60's, The Land of Sensations and Delights: The Psych Pop Sounds of White Whale Records, 1965-1970, unearths the best gems from the Los Angeles label. Founded by Ted Feigin and Lee Lassef in 1965, White Whale Records was instantly put on the map, thanks to its debut single, the Turtles' It Ain't Me Babe, which hit the Billboard Top 10 that summer. Throughout the next five years, the short-lived but enterprising label issued over 150 singles, as well as 24 albums. Though not every release had the same success at the Turtles' output, Feigin and Lasseff signed a wide range of artists: from singer-songwriters to psychedelic pop acts. The Land of Sensations and Delights celebrates the "myriad of obscurities and curiosities" that came from the White Whale catalog, as the Grammy® - nominated compilation producer, Andrew Sandoval, explains in his in-depth liner notes.
