Jeff Rosenstock Friday 26th May at Banquet Records, 6:00pm ahead of his show at The Fighting Cocks, Jeff Rosenstock plays in the shop. He just released his third solo album Worry. back in October and it didn't take long for us to love it, it's infectious and fun punkrock even when he's tackling subjects of anxiety, depression, gentrification, police brutality, and over-consumption. We're Rosen-stoked to have Jeff return back to Kingston, fans of Pup, The Smith Street Band, Shit Present and Weezer get into this! The record's everything you want it to be. Buzzy guitars. Twangy sections. Organs warming little nooks and crannies. Synth draped like curtains. A whole bunch of melodies clashing at various decibels, all decorating a house that's as warm as it is welcoming. From indie pop jams like "We Begged 2 Explode" to the power pop of "Pash Rash", it's a start that punches you in the gut. - Punknews In-store Grade C, come on down for free. This show is intended for under 18s, but all ages are welcome.
Slingshot Dakota / Petal Sunday 14th May at Banquet Records, 12:00pm Brilliant indie-punk duo Slingshot Dakota make a return visit to Kingston and this time they're bringing touring partner Petal along with them. Slingshot Dakota were last in town in 2013 while supporting Into It, Over It. at The Fighting Cocks and we're excited to finally have them back, they're a brilliant keyboard and drums duo that you'll love if you're into the likes of Lemuria and Lemonheads. Kingston newcomer Petal is the project of Kiley Lotz with the rest of the band built around rotating members of friends' bands. They released their debut album Shame in 2015 and it's full of infectious, warm indie-emo songs. If you're into Adventures, Tigers Jaw, The Cranberries or Pinegrove then you'll want to check this out. In-store grade C, anyone is welcome.
The Big Moon Thursday 6th April at Banquet Records, 6:00pm Tickets for collection at the shop on the evening of the in-store. Please bring your order number with you. The London quartet The Big Moon make their first visit to the shop the day before their debut album is released. The band have been on tour with The Vaccines and The Maccabees, they play punchy indie-pop that is full of weird and wonderful joyfulness. Recommended for fans of Real Estate, Future Islands, Cherry Glazerr and Black Honey. We recorded the album with Catherine Marks (Wolf Alice, Foals). She’s an amazing producer, and such a boss. We only had twelve days in the studio, so it was all quite quick, but that’s good because it’s sort of like, wham-bam, make decisions. And quite often your first instinct is the best one, isn’t it? There’s not enough time to overthink things. In-store grade B. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Love In The 4th Dimension from us. CD | LP
Right Said Fred at Banquet Records (Date TBC) Please note: this event has had to be postponed due to scheduling conflicts in the band, we're working on re-arranging the date but we don't think it'll be for a few months, all tickets will remain valid. Coinciding with their ninth album, the pop-duo Right Said Fred play in the shop. The brothers are known for their bonified pop classics that display a strong tongue-in-cheek style that has made them such an endearing act over the last 25 years of their career, the lead single Sweet Treats from the new album Exactly! is evidence of their infectiousness. After 25 years, the brothers remain true to their spirit - they don’t follow trends, they follow their instincts and have fun along the way. Doing music their way - the ‘Right Said Fred’ way - is testament to their track record and continued success. In-store grade A. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Exactly! from us. Can't Swim / Microwave Wednesday 12th April at Banquet Records, 6:00pm Tickets for collection at the shop on the evening of the in-store. Please bring your order number with you. Albums will be posted. Can't Swim tickets come with Fail You Again. Microwave tickets come with Much Love. While out on their UK tour with Real Friends, the New Jersey punk driven alt-rockers Can't Swim and the indie-punk-rock four piece Microwave stop off in Kingston to play in the shop. Can't Swim blend pop-punk with some dark and gross-pop-esque styles, their music fluctuates between being full of aggression and energy to being quiet, reserved and fragile, with a continuous raw and grungy vibe throughout. This band is a must for fans of Frank Iero, Pup, Boston Manor and Brand New. Microwave take elements of emo and hardcore and combine it with an indie-rock approach, creating a sharp yet reserved punk rock sound. Their debut record Stovall is simultaneously dynamic and emotionally powerful while still maintaining a poetic edge, for fans of Pinegrove, Weezer, Pup and Into It. Over It. In-store Grade B. Anyone is welcome but priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy either album from us. CD | LP
Dikembe Tuesday 6th June at Banquet Records, 6:00pm The Gainesville emo-punk trio Dikembe stop by to perform in the shop at the start of their UK tour. They've crafted honest, and punchy punk songs on their latest album Hail Something. Fans of Spraynard and Gnarwolves will enjoy.. Dikembe are an anomaly of a band from Gainesville, Florida. They do everything on their own terms from handling all their band business, to recording, to touring whilst all living hours apart from each other. It's this attitude that drives them to make music that's honest, personal and truly a reflection of themselves. In-store Grade C. Anyone is welcome but priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Hail Something from us. LP
Blood Youth Tuesday 11th April at Banquet Records, 6:00pm Tickets for collection at the shop on the evening of the in-store. Please bring your order number with you. Albums will be posted. Just a few days after their debut album is released, Blood Youth make a return visit to perform in the shop. We're fans of Blood Youth, they've been touring and performing at festivals extensively the last year while also writing some punk anthems. They play a ferocious mix of melodic hardcore, full of heavy breakdowns and aggressive vocals with vulnerable and honest lyrics. If you're into the likes of Beartooth, Close Your Eyes, A Day To Remember or While She Sleeps, then you'll get into this. ‘Beyond Repair’ is an unrelenting assault of punch-to-the-gut riffing and Kaya Tarsus’ impassioned vocals that both tear and soar. Brutally heavy yet deftly accessible, the material of Closure showcases its creators’ state of mind, striking a compelling balance between fury and vulnerability. In-store grade B. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Beyond Repair from us. CD | LP
