Ben Gregory
Thursday 13th April
at Banquet Records, 6:00pm
To celebrate the release of the new album titled 'episode', Ben Gregory visits Kingston to play an in-store set.Episode is a majestic, multi-faceted and emotionally wrenching record born out of a period of profound personal upheaval. In 2019 Blaenavon, the much-beloved band with whom he released two widely acclaimed albums, was dissolving and Gregory was receiving treatment in psychiatric hospitals. The album began to come together during his recovery. With breath-taking instrumentals and dark, insightful lyrics, Gregory – with the help of producer and old friend Blaine Harrison of Mystery Jets and engineer Matt Twaites – pushed his music to genre-bending limits.Episode was written over a ten-day period, the eight songs that would become the album sprawled out across the vast emotional spectrum Gregory had experienced in the months beforehand. It was important, he says, “that the representations of different emotions highlight those emotions at their most extreme. That’s how it’s been for me generally, especially during and after bipolar episodes. Depression that couldn’t possibly ever end, guilt that you’ll never get over, yearning that will never be fulfilled, love that will last forever. Silly things like that.”-In-store Grade CPriority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of 'episode' from us. After their demise, and before joining Jerry Dammers' new project, she recorded The Bodysnatchers' first original song, 'The Boiler', a harrowing tale of date rape, which was inevitably banned. Willie J Healey
Monday 28th August
at Banquet Records, 6:00pm
To celebrate the release of his new album titled 'Bunny', Willie J Healey returns to Kingston to play an in-store set.Is Willie J Healey your favourite artists’ favourite artist? You better believe it. Alex Turner, Joe Talbot of IDLES, Jamie T and Orlando Weeks are among those who believe, most having come onboard following the Neil Young-meets-The Beatles-meets Elvis Costello charms of his 2020 album ‘Twin Heavy’. And while Willie has largely been the preserve of those in the know, that’s all about to change. When Florence Welch heard his upcoming album ‘Bunny’ via its producer, her friend Loren Humphrey, as well as through YALA! Records co- founder Felix White, she was sufficiently impressed to invite Willie and his band on this autumn’s Florence + The Machine arena tour. -In-store Grade C.Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of 'Bunny' from us.
