DRS first came across Dynamite during his time in Roni Size's Bristol collective Reprazent, the winners of the 1997 Mercury Prize 'Album Of The Year', now showing full circle movements in 2020. 'Playing In The Dark' pays respect to this collaboration and the combination of styles which is signalled so clearly throughout DRS and Dynamite's sound. Bop / Subwave Dream On Esteemed Russian D+B producers Bop x Subwave are back with the second release under their new collaborative project. The four-track ‘Dream On’ EP is a perfect encapsulation of the pair’s style, seamlessly infusing their sounds to create a unique and refreshing project whereby the duo have once again tested the boundaries of D+B moving into the realms of garage and lo-fi jungle. Kicking off the EP is ‘Higher Dimension’, a synthwave-infused D+B number with a dark twist. Dreamlike vocals drenched in reverb combined with nostalgic synths and an unforgiving bassline set the listener up for what’s to come. The minimal yet soulful ‘Escape From U’ follows, bringing crisp percussion and melancholic vibes to this sublime stepper. ‘Lo-Fi Romance’ leads the way for the second half of the EP. Airy pads and bare-bone breaks lay the foundations for this simple yet sophisticated liquid roller. Switching up the vibe yet staying true to the distinct Bop x Subwave sound, ‘Haze’ rounds off the EP, taking things down to 130BPM territory. A clear homage to the sounds of the UK underground with garage-influenced drums and a hard hitting sub. After the success of their debut EP ‘Love & Other Drugs’ including a number 1 track in the Beatport Garage chart, appraisal from key electronic music publications such as DJ Mag and Resident Advisor as well as radio support across BBC Radio 1, Rinse FM and Reprezent, it’s set to be a huge year for the duo project. Brian Belle-Fortune All Crews The All Crews book is over ten years of journeys through jungle / drum & bass music and features interviews with all the top artists. However, author Brian Belle-Fortune also delves deeper and looks at the pirate radio stations, labels, crews, promoters and ravers that form the backbone of the scene. Initially published in 1999 as All Crew Muss Big Up, it was considered the definitive snapshot of jungle’s earliest years but quickly went out of print and became cult reading. Reprinted in 2004, All Crews not only features the original text but also an extensive update. Even now All Crews continues to be essential reading for those interested in the history of drum & bass. Brian Belle-Fortune conceived and co-produced One in the Jungle, Britain’s first national Jungle program for BBC Radio One. His TV credits include BBC South, Channel 4 and MTV where he specialised in underground youth culture, particularly Jungle. He was also label manager for DJ Ron’s London Some ’Ting Records and has played on London pirate radio stations Rude FM / Ruud Awakening as DJ Zy:on. All Crews
