Maybeshewill Fair Youth (10th Anniversary Remix & Remaster) UK-based instrumental band, MAYBESHEWILL, celebrate 10 years of their fourth studio album ‘Fair Youth’, with a brand new vinyl edition. Newly remixed & remastered by the bands own Jamie Ward, this edition comes as a limited opaque hot pink & black marbled edition (on reverse board),and will also be available on digital services. As Jamie explains: “Fair Youth is a pretty ambitious album. The arrangements are pretty maximalist and we were treading new ground with the instrumentation. For this 10 year anniversary reissue I felt I could get more out of the album with a full remix rather than just a remaster. With 10 years more mixing experience under my belt I feel a bit better placed to conquer the wall of sound and get a little more separation between the instruments to really bring out the details of those arrangements. In general I’ve tired to make things hit a little harder and be bit a more vibrant and technicolour.” On its original release in 2014, DIY Magazine said that the band “had never sounded better”, while Rocksound called the album “an undeniably engaging listen”, and this new version presents a fresh way to experience the music. Modern English 1234 Modern English is a paragon of consistency. Formed in Colchester, Essex, England, the band have maintained their same core lineup since 1977: vocalist Robbie Grey, guitarist Gary McDowell, bassist Mick Conroy, and keyboardist Stephen Walker. The first installment features six selections of completely unheard material from roughly a three year period in the middle of the band’s career. Whereas traditional rarity collections can feel like an archive dump (wherein the songs don’t have a discernible relation to one another in any capacity), “Vol. I” has been meticulously crafted to flow seamlessly from beginning to end, communicating a long-form narrative that can only be experienced in full when listening to the piece in its entirety. This Will Destroy You Kitchen A 7" single flexi-disc from the acclaimed instrumental / post-rock titans This Will Destroy You, this is the first song reeased from the Vespertine project, a collaborative concept where the entirety of Chef Jordan Kahn's new CA, restaurant has been custom-scored by Los Angeles' own This Will Destroy You. One of seven pieces written for the building itself (and even the space around it), "Kitchen" is the music that diners first hear as they are greeted by Chef Kahn before dinner service begins for the evening. In composing the music for this interaction, This Will Destroy You's Chris King and Jeremy Galindo sought to convey a warm, hospitable - if not reassuring - tone for listeners that may (or may not) be present elsewhere as they discover and explore the spaces in and around Vespertine's looming architectural monolith for the remainder of their stay. Inventions Continuous Portrait Indies exclusive LP is on 'pearlescent bronze' coloured vinyl. On their first album together since Maze of Woods (2015), Matthew Robert Cooper (Eluvium) and Mark T. Smith (Explosions in the Sky) further their creative curiosities as Inventions. Beginning with a trace of uncontrollable laughter that shifts into the driving atmosphere and unfolding elation of opening track “Hint and Omens,” Continuous Portrait is an album of strange hypnosis, punctuated by songs that venture quite far from the respective oeuvres of Cooper and Smith. The spry, playful layers of “Calico” bounce against a steady thrum of rhythms and samples from everyday noises, while the dancing lightness of “Outlook for the Future” is met with a storm of emotional resonance. Both tracks emerge as distinctively different directions for Inventions, and it is that very sense of exploration, pleasure, and ceremonial melancholia which informs the entire album from front to back. Inventions has always been the product of two friends who find comfort and inspiration in the genuine surprise of creating and combining sounds. Continuous Portrait whirls and hums like Cooper and Smith want us to invoke our inner playfulness and welcome a greater joy into our lives, if only for a moment.
