Quantic Atlantic Modulations Atlantic Modulations’ brings together reworkings of Will “Quantic” Holland’s critically acclaimed album "Atlantic Oscillations", featuring remixes from Sampology, Dan Shake, Alfa Mist and Quantic himself. EP opener "You Used To Love Me ft. Denitia (Selva Remix)" epitomises Holland's relocation to Brooklyn, building his new recording studio 'Selva' and taking up a bi-monthly residency at 'Good Room' (NY); with the essence of the NY club scene radiating through the Selva Remix. A key figure in London's burgeoning jazz scene, talented pianist, producer and composer Alfa Mist reworks "You Used To Love Me" with the addition of melancholic brass and keys, giving the original a contemporary jazz twist. "September Blues" is granted the heavyweight house treatment by Moodymann-stamped-seal-of-approval, Dan Shake. Adding his well-loved mesh of sparky acid synths, Brazilian samba percussion and itchy groove-funk to the song, fuelling "September Blues" into a peak-time contagious weapon. Brisbane-based producer, DJ, and Worldwide FM resident, Sampology gives "Orquidea" featuring Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Sly5thAve, a delicate touch of tropical-disco and dub-variants, slowing down the brass horns and distorting the bedrock of the track. ‘Atlantic Oscillations’ marked the return of world-renowned British producer Quantic with his most cohesive and intricate album to date; "Atlantic Modulations" cements that release, contextualising it on the dancefloor. The Seshen Dive / 4AM Dive / 4AM is the latest outing from San Francisco Bay Area-based sixpiece, The Seshen. The 7” outlines the steps the group has made since their critically acclaimed sophomore album in 2016, both as a band and as individuals. Side A opens with distorted four-to-the-floor chomper, Dive. Aggressive yet danceable, gritty but somehow unstoppable, Dive is inspired the profound need for change, catalysed through the somnambulant Larry Heard-esque bassline meshed to the warped tones of Lalin’s vocals. While in contrast on side B, 4AM untethers the listener by exploring a sense of spaciousness, flourishing the sparseness, distracting with moving snippets of delicate production. TRU THOUGHTS 7"
Rodney P The Next Chapter / Recognise Me “The Next Chapter” is both personal and cultural. It’s a reintroduction to the hugely influential legend while laying out the next chapter in his respected career. “Recognise Me (I’m An African)” see’s Rodney reconnect on a deeper level with his West-Indian heritage as a second-generation immigrant. Referencing Ghanaian politician and revolutionary Kwame Nkrumah, Rodney explores themes of identity and the ideology of pan-Africanism (the idea that the destiny of all people of African descent, depends on the fate of the continent of Africa). A pioneer who inspired a generation of hip-hop and grime MCs with his home-grown reggae-influenced flow, Rodney P set the scene ablaze back in the late ‘80s with the seminal group London Posse. Since then, he has had a rich and varied career as a radio and television personality, while musically collaborating with the likes of Bjork, Skinnyman, Omar, MJ Cole and countless others. Terror Danjah Invasion ‘Invasion’ is the sixth, highly-anticipated, album from grime veteran and production mastermind, Terror Danjah. One of the most well-respected producers and key players in the grime world, London-based Terror Danjah is known for his work with some of the highest calibre of MCs in the scene, such as Wiley, Dizzee Rascal and N.A.S.T.Y. Crew (which included Jammer, D Double E and Kano). An exceptional instrumental LP, ‘Invasion’ features Terror’s trademark heavy basslines, intricate programming and kinetic productions, with a sonic output that is brash, neon-bright and hyperactive. Lead single “Module” is a deep dancefloor-tested tune layered like a colossal sonic wall, featuring Terror Danjah’s idiosyncratic presence of a gremlin-meets-robotic crackle - a secret formula to the success of his sound. ‘Invasion’ also boasts collabs with producer, BBC 1Xtra DJ and close friend Sir Spyro on album opener “TBC” and fresh new talent, Nii-Teiko featuring on “Scene 1”. The use of Caribbean steel pan drums on “Wavy” creates euphoria-laden rhythms, “Snowfall” is an agro-distorted dub attack, while “After Dark” showcases Terror Danjah at his finest, ominous and hard-hitting with wobbly bass backdrops and chopped vocal clips scattered around the room eerily. Moonchild Little Ghost Little Ghost marks the return of LA-based trio Moonchild with their most thoughtfully crafted and complete album to date. Led by first single “Too Much to Ask”, the release sees multi-instrumentalists Amber Navran, Max Bryk, and Andris Mattson channel boundless sonic energy as they explore some of the most personal aspects of what it is to be in love and to believe in who you truly are. With a unique style of alternative R&B, soul and new-school jazz that has cemented their spot in today’s music scene, Moonchild continue to intertwine lyrical concepts with expansive glistening melodies, harmonies and irresistible interludes. Taking its name from the most emotional of celestial bodies ‘Little Ghost’ follows the widely-praised ‘Voyager’ , ‘Please Rewind’ and ‘Be Free’ . Since the release of their critically acclaimed ‘Voyager’ album, Moonchild have toured the album across the world, with headline tours in North America, Asia and Europe as well as opening for The Internet and Kamasi Washington. Whilst travelling, the band wasted no time working on ‘Little Ghost’ as they started putting together beats and production ideas on the road; “Eventually we were able to spend time solely on the album, going to Lake Arrowhead for writing retreats and meeting up at each other’s houses back in LA” says Bryk. Channelling this collaborative spirit, the LP is a continuation of the Moonchild story; “Moonchild has been a project between the three of us where we work to achieve sound we all have in our heads, but can’t articulate into words”, Bryk summarises. This fondness for experimentation and teamwork follows across the release, particularly through the instrumentation with band members coming together to form harmonies and horn solos; as shown in the funk-fuelled “Come Over” features three separate horn solos back-to-back-to-back from Moonchild with Bryk on Clarinet, Mattson on Flugelhorns and Amber on flutes showcasing their otherworldly musical talent and respect for one another.
