Bonobo Animal Magic Since first emerging at the tail end of the ‘90s, Simon Green aka Bonobo has become downtempo music’s most marketable star. Animal Magic (originally released in 2001) is still fresh with Green’s signature beats encouraging a state of relaxed bliss that begs to be basked in. This debut is a lovely little exercise in chill music, with Green blending breakbeats, pad sounds, jazzy live instrumentation and naked emotion to create a sound all his own. Downtempo electronic music often wanders into EZ-listening terrain, but Animal Magic has enough underlying feeling and intelligent arrangements to keep any listener’s interest. Green has a real flair for dynamics, the melodies are a blissful, magical aroma of vibrantly lit-up sounds which all seem to standout like receiving your favourite gift for Christmas. If that wasn’t enough, the drums are crisp clean and have no turn-off regarding sound quality. Those simple little drums and cymbals both function like hearing a flock of birds chirping in the morning; quiet and alluring. “Animal Magic is just about masterful in every way possible.” Tru Thoughts 12"

Moonchild Little Ghost Little Ghost marks the return of LA-based trio Moonchild with their most thoughtfully crafted and complete album to date. Led by first single “Too Much to Ask”, the release sees multi-instrumentalists Amber Navran, Max Bryk, and Andris Mattson channel boundless sonic energy as they explore some of the most personal aspects of what it is to be in love and to believe in who you truly are. With a unique style of alternative R&B, soul and new-school jazz that has cemented their spot in today’s music scene, Moonchild continue to intertwine lyrical concepts with expansive glistening melodies, harmonies and irresistible interludes. Taking its name from the most emotional of celestial bodies ‘Little Ghost’ follows the widely-praised ‘Voyager’ , ‘Please Rewind’ and ‘Be Free’ . Since the release of their critically acclaimed ‘Voyager’ album, Moonchild have toured the album across the world, with headline tours in North America, Asia and Europe as well as opening for The Internet and Kamasi Washington. Whilst travelling, the band wasted no time working on ‘Little Ghost’ as they started putting together beats and production ideas on the road; “Eventually we were able to spend time solely on the album, going to Lake Arrowhead for writing retreats and meeting up at each other’s houses back in LA” says Bryk. Channelling this collaborative spirit, the LP is a continuation of the Moonchild story; “Moonchild has been a project between the three of us where we work to achieve sound we all have in our heads, but can’t articulate into words”, Bryk summarises. This fondness for experimentation and teamwork follows across the release, particularly through the instrumentation with band members coming together to form harmonies and horn solos; as shown in the funk-fuelled “Come Over” features three separate horn solos back-to-back-to-back from Moonchild with Bryk on Clarinet, Mattson on Flugelhorns and Amber on flutes showcasing their otherworldly musical talent and respect for one another. Flowdan Full Metal Jacket Full Metal Jacket’ is the new album from one of the founding members of UK Grime crew, infamous Roll Deep MC Flowdan. Flowdan’s ‘Full Metal Jacket’ unites unforgettable characters in the grime scene today, linking both purists and its younger disciples. The legendary Plastician sits alongside newcomer Muszolini as Flowdan continues to work alongside key producers such as Footsie, Filthy Gears, Riddla and Maniac, bringing a hefty balance of body and weight to the Flowdan sound. Marc Veira, the man behind the Flowdan alias, grew up in London and the influence of the city is prominent throughout ‘Full Metal Jacket’. Lead single, “Welcome To London” tackles the daunting nature of the city; one that may seem welcoming and beautiful to tourists, but not to those who experience it in day to day life. Shining a dark light on his hometown, Flowdan explores the melting pot of London and the instincts that bring its diverse population together in tracks “Cash Flow” and “One Question”; “We might not always see or understand them, but everyone has pressures and because of this you must be versatile in order to survive”. “News At Ten feat. Irah” hones in on the exposure of this underbelly; whatever occurs, however big or small, it will be a newsworthy issue and you will hear about it. TRU THOUGHTS CD

Bringing together new players and concepts with a dance orientated sound that has enchanted fans and tastemakers across the world for nearly two decades, it showcases Will “Quantic” Holland’s artistry and rare ability to intertwine the electronic with the orchestral. The LP is the first Quantic album under his main solo moniker since 2014’s critically acclaimed ‘Magnetica’, and in the interim the prolific artist has raised the stakes with further highly praised side projects including The Western Transient, Flowering Inferno, Quantic & Nidia Góngora and Quantic y Los Míticos del Ritmo. These recordings, journeys and projects have all played a role in the creation of ‘Atlantic Oscillations’; “This record feels like it grew naturally as I grew to know New York”, Holland muses “I had started the record with electronic sketches in Ableton but soon found that with my new studio setup I was able to record everything with live musicians”.
