Illusion Of Time [LRS20]
This is an exclusive and limited 'Love Record Stores 2020 - Independent Albums Of The Year' release and will be available to order from 6:00pm on Saturday 5th December, strictly one per customer. The new collaborative album from the acclaimed experimental electronic artist Daniel Avery with Nine Inch Nails synth artist Alessandro Cortini. “It was very much a shared process... I would like to credit Alessandro with his belief that music has a life of its own, as well as the importance he places on the first take... That even something that may be considered out-of-step by some should be respected. Some of the tracks were borne simply out of a tiny synth part, or a bit of tape hiss that we had recorded. And that approach taught me a lot. It’s a record that’s been worked on hard, but not laboured over.” - Avery “I was a big fan of Daniel’s, and his work always spoke to me in a certain way... Then, when we started working together, it just clicked. It’s very hard to explain, but I can always hear the love in his work, and that is true on this record. After our first collaboration, we just kept sending each other music and maintaining that dialogue. Next thing you know, we’re sitting in a hotel room in New York and had finished the record in three hours.” - Cortini

Erol Alkan
Reworks Volume 1
Phantasy is proud to announce the release of Reworks Volume 1, a comprehensive collection of remixes from prodigious DJ and producer Erol Alkan, due for release on the 3 November, 2017.
Reworks Volume 1 is a musical overview of what makes Erol Alkan one of his generation's most iconic remixers. Framing a corner of his career in perspective – a success in taking on any source material and melding it into something of his own. Alkan’s philosophy towards a remix is to "re-produce" work as if the original never existed. Avoiding methods like the transplanting of a vocal on a contemporary dance beat, or adding a four-to-the-floor 808 kick drum underneath a rock band, Alkan instead takes a considered approach to build something new that offers a fresh and divergent take on the music in front of him.
This collection of reworks illustrates that his distinct style of remixing is just another layer in what makes Erol Alkan unique to dance music. Unpredictable, but equipped with a Midas touch—you never quite know what's coming, but can count on it to be special, a quality shared between both his Dj sets and production work, too. Erol Alkan is a dance music artist with an alternative sensibility, a psychedelic approach and a punk outlook—what makes him stand apart in dance music is what makes him one of the genre's most enduring and influential artists.
Reworks Volume 1 looks back on over a decade of realigning other artists, including his classic versions of Justice's ‘Waters Of Nazareth,’ Connan Mockasin's ‘Forever Dolphin Love’ and Death From Above 1979's ‘Romantic Rights,’ remixes that have added new perspective and dimensions to the originals, at times perform alchemy, turning rock into dance music on reworks for Franz Ferdinand, Interpol and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and he's just as comfortable taking on fellow dance music producers like Lindstrom, Daft Punk and Hot Chip – a connection which lead to the classic rework of 'Boy From School‘.

Daniel Avery
Love + Light
First pressing is on 'milky clear' vinyl.
The third full length album from acclaimed electro-artist Daniel Avery.
Love + Light arrives unexpectedly, following Avery’s recent collaborations with Alessandro Cortini on the critically acclaimed Illusion of Time LP (“a record that suggests Godspeed You! Black Emperor in drone mode, reimagining Music For
Airports as if the runways were covered in gravel and air traffic control was on strike,” said Loud & Quiet, while Q hailed it “lush mood music to get lost in”) and alongside Roman Flügel under the alias of Noun. Avery’s previous solo album Song For Alpha was released in 2018 to similar acclaim. Avery shares, “This record has been a real positive force of energy in my life, to the point where it almost formed itself in front of me. In that same spirit, I wanted to share it with you now, as soon as it was finished. As I started to collect the pieces together, it was apparent that the album would be split into two distinct halves but halves that were inexorably tied together. One could not have existed without the other. Music has always been a source of personal strength for me yet I remain fascinated by the power it can possess of its own volition. Releasing the record in this way, just a couple of weeks after the final note had fallen, felt like a decision made by an outside force yet one I agreed with entirely. Stay safe, friends and I’ll see you on the other side soon. DA xxx”

C.Y.M.
Capra
C.Y.M. is the collaboration between British producer and DJ Mike Greene (otherwise known as Fort Romeau) and LA-based American musician Chris Baio, who releases music as Baio in addition to playing bass in the acclaimed band Vampire Weekend. Their debut, self-titled EP arrives on Phantasy as an elegant pean to the infinite possibilities of kosmische music, driven by a motorik strain of psychedelia. The foundations of a wider project, C.Y.M. speaks not for analogue nostalgia, but a subtle and modern update on imagined futures that are still open to interpretation.
‘Capra’ immediately establishes the duo’s masterful if unsurprising grip on rhythm, a man-machine stomp that persists as the track takes myriad turns, from post-punk guitar licks and processed vocals, through bubbling modular synthesis and culminating in a soaring, cathartic melody.
On ‘Far Gone’ C.Y.M. turn their studio inward for a more brooding and intimate interpretation of their sound, a balearic amalgam of intriguing vocals, feedback soaked riffs and no-wave inspired movement.
The bliss beneath the waves of noise that crash across C.Y.M’s music emerges fully on the driving conclusion, ‘Super-Cannes’. A hypnotic tempo and blistering drums intertwine with whirling organs, and shimmering keys, providing a wistful and warm finale.
