Vinnie Caruana Live at The Black Heart A double LP live record from Vinnie Caruana playing a career spanning set at The Black Heart in London on 15th December 2019. Playing raw and heartfelt fan favourites, Vinnie showcases tracks off his new EP Aging Frontman amongst old classics from his solo material and his other bands, the much loved The Movielife and I Am The Avalanche. "It was the last show of a life-affirming tour. We took in many a Christmas market, and we drank around 100 Guinness each. Being able to travel around a foreign country, only to see friends, some of whom I met nearly 2 decades ago, will never be something I take for granted. Every show was special in its own way, and this one was just the cherry on top. The crowd didn’t know we were recording, and the result is a very real and organic experience. I fucked up a few songs, but, as you know, that is par for the course. Long live the UK. Long live the connection we share together. Somebody in New York loves you (it’s me). Please enjoy. Peace and love, VC" Big Scary Monsters LP
Into it. Over It. Figure The highly anticipated new full length record from Banquet favs Into It. Over It., following on from 2016's Standards. Excellent mixes of mathy-emo with indie-punk charm. Fans of American Football, Tigers Jaw, The Menzingers and Balance And Composure should check this out. At the start of 2017, Evan Thomas Weiss wasn’t sure that he would make Figure , his upcoming fourth full-length record under namesake Into It. Over It. Built slowly and kindly with the help of his Chicago community, Figure is a commitment to do better and to be better, a love letter to stumbling and scraped knees, a field medic’s kit: knife and scalpel with stitches and bandaging, and something to cauterize the wounds. “It’s about trying to make peace with poor decisions that I’ve made,” he says, “and how I can try to reconcile as much as I can, and what I can’t reconcile, how I’m going to cope with that moving forward, and what I can do to be better to the people around me.” Triple Crown Records / Big Scary Monsters LP Pre-Order
Owen The Avalanche The new full length solo album from Owen, the moniker of Mike Kinsella, known well from his work with the notorious emo-legends American Football. Beautiful and meticulously crafted indie-folk songs with that acclaimed mathy-emo influence. Production for this record was handled by S.Carey! Mike Kinsella’s various musical endeavours should need little introduction. From his early days with Cap’n Jazz right up the triumphant return of American Football, here’s a guy that’s more than made a lasting impression on a scene that while spawning countless imitators there have been few, if any, betters. Now back again and seemingly more prolific than ever, Mike returns with his long running solo project Owen. Easily his most intense album, The Avalanche is also the most beautifully crafted, resulting in nine of the best Owen songs ever penned and an album that’s as heartbreaking as it is magnificent. We Were Promised Jetpacks out of interest A new EP from the scottish mathy-indie-rockers We Were Promised Jetpacks, pressed on yellow vinyl. Includes unreleased songs and early demos of tracks from The More I Sleep, The Less I Dream. Big Scary Monsters 12"
Nervus Tough Crowd Indies exclusive LP is on 'frosted clear w/ red splatter' coloured vinyl. The third full length album from the Watford indie-punkers Nervus. Fans of Against Me!, Milk Teeth and Jamie Lenman should check this out. Where once, songwriter-in-chief Em Foster (vocals/guitar) furiously wrote and recorded songs in her bedroom, as a type of personal catharsis, looking at the personal, and then the immediate politics of identity, gender and queerness - this third album took a different journey, using a whole new collaborative process and approach. As a result, this their third record, speaks differently to their older work. Big Scary Monsters CD | LP
Colour Anthology It's been ten years since Colours split up, and BSM have re-pressed their Anthology set. As per the original release, both formats come packaged in recycled brown sleeves and include an A3 insert, featuring some very fresh-faced band members in the photos! And as for the music, well it's every track they ever recorded. All 13 songs. Big Scary Monsters CD | LP
Chris Farren Born Hot The new full length album from the excellent Kingston visitor Chris Farren. Whimsical and witty mixes of indie-punk songwriting like no other. On his Polyvinyl debut Born Hot, Chris Farren opens with a question he’ll spend much of the album trying to answer: Why do I feel out of place in my own outer space? Telegraphing his inner narrative with a childlike candor, the Florida-born artist lays bare his most intense anxieties and—in the very same breath—documents the mildly soul-crushing minutiae of everyday life: the strange indecency of blasting AC/DC bangers through an iPhone speaker, the inexplicable bleakness of a Starbucks franchise tucked inside a Target. But with his irrepressible sense of humor and utter lack of self-seriousness, Farren defuses the pain of even the deepest insecurity, gracefully paving the way for pure pop catharsis. Cassels The Perfect Ending Finding humour in the seemingly inescapable collapse of the human race: it might not be the most conventional approach to a record, but Cassels have already proved themselves to be anything but traditionalists. Developing a sound characterised by a maelstrom of erratic instrumentation and pointed, punk-inflected vocals, Cassels operate outside of strict genre distinctions. Sardonic and not wholly pessimistic, their second full-length LP ‘The Perfect Ending’ is stark, angry and occasionally funny, its take on divisiveness and dislocation written in the only way the Beck brothers can.
