Soul Supreme Check the Rhime / Lyrics to Go Jazz runs deep through the music of A Tribe Called Quest. It's as Q-Tip infamously puts it inExcursions, the opening track of their sophomore album:"Don't you know that things go in cycles? The way that Bobby Brown is just ampin' like Michael."A new 7" release by Amsterdam-based, Jerusalem-born keyboardist, DJ & producer Soul Supreme is in its own way a reflection of that. The record features homages to iconic hip-hop tracks "Check The Rhime" & "Lyrics To Go" from a jazz perspective. "It's kinda ironic: these tracks are interpretations, but almosteverythingis different," says Soul Supreme. "The harmony, the melodies, the instruments that are used for each part, the structure… I want to take the listener on a trip to overlook a track they know, but from a different perspective. I try to go 'in and out' of the ATCQ tracks so the listener never knows what's going to happen next. My overall goal is to give existing music my own twist. I don't want to sound like a rehash of something listeners have heard before." Soul Supreme Records 7" Pre-Order
SoulBrigada Resense 048 After their brilliant debut on Resense, SoulBrigada returns with two new cuts. Following the proven formula, two classic Funk & Soul joints get the SoulBrigada treatment to fire up the dancefloors again. 'Help' is a Northern Soul gem from the midwest - from 1969. The raw & funky sound of the song follows with great perfection a JB style, which is complemented by the sweet soul voice of the singer. The SoulBrigada-Edit focuses even more on the percussive side of the song and the extension provides a real dancefloor filler. 'Love U Baby' is a great Soultune, which was also released in 1969 by a vocal duo from the southwest of the USA. The song stands out because of its funkiness and the great interaction of the two singers. The rework provides the right dose of funk with additional drums, repetitive editing and expansion. His first volume includes Lordfunk and Moar from France who created a boogietastic and bouncing track with classic Jurassic 5-vocals on top and some familiar samples. On the flip you'll find a dancefloor banger with hard hitting drums around Big Daddy Kane and MJ produced by a mysterious producer from Germany. Resense Records 7"
Beastie Boys / mfsb Check It Out People The latest edition in DJ Soopasoul's "Soopastole Edits" series looks like it may fly off the shelves, and with good reason. The lead cut is not an edit per se, but rather a crafty, clever and expertly produced mash-up that places selected rap flows from the acapella version of Beastie Boys classic "Ch-Check It Out" over a tightened up and fattened up rearrangement of MFSB's disco-era jam "People All Over The World". Sometimes these kinds of mash-ups can be messy, but this genuinely isn't, with the Beasties' vocals fitting the backing track like a glove. Over on side B Soopasoul shares his tweak of the MFSB track, which is entirely instrumental bar periodic use of the band's female backing vocals. Soopastole 7"

With his debut album "The Barbershop" making waves on both sides of the Atlantic and his Single "The Product" On Classic Records garnering support from a cross genre selection of heavyweights such as Karizma, Benji B, Eli Escobar, House Shoes, J Rocc, DJ Spinna and Henry Wu, Snips returns on his own label Barbershop Records and delves into Edit territory for his second instalment of the "Snips Edits" series. Sunlightsquare Latin Combo I Believe In Miracles Here's Sunlightsquare's 10th Anniversary special red edition of "I Believe In Miracles" 7inch vinyl record. This is a repress from the same metalwork as the original 2010 release. One of the most played tracks in latin music circles worldwide for the past decade, this salsa cover of Jackson Sisters' 1973 hit was produced by British-Italian pianist and producer Claudio Passavanti. The recording features a 25 piece band recorded live in Cuba, at Instituto Cubano de Radio y Televisión in Havana. The original 45 has become very rare amongst vinyl collectors, being valued between 50 and 200 USD on Discogs at the time of writing. This special edition looks and sounds 100% as the original (pressed by the same plant using the same stamper) except... it's in bright red vinyl! Sunlightsquare Recordings 7"

Tall Black Guy / Karizma A Franklin Black Excursion We begin 2018 on a slightly spiritual note, and a brand new Excursion. A vinyl-only 7" flip courtesy of a delightful dream-team duo; Tall Black Guy and Karizma. A real pleasure to welcome these two to the fold, here with 'A Franklin Black Excursion' - a double-header of beautiful re-interpretations of a classic by the Queen of Soul… For those that don't know, Tall Black Guy is a regular favourite from our sister-label, First Word Records, on which he's released two albums over the past few years ('8 Miles To Moenart' and 'Let's Take A Trip'). Detroit-born Terrel Wallace has built a solid rep in recent times as one of the most revered beatmakers on the planet. Initially pricking peoples ears with a series of incredible edits, he has garnered fans far & wide from Gilles to Jazzy Jeff (with whom he's become a regular stalwart of The PLAYlist Retreat sessions). Production, remixes and collabs have included Moonchild, Little Dragon, Masego, Terrace Martin, Zara McFarlane, The Mouse Outfit and Stro Elliot. Karizma, aka Kaytronik, aka Kris Klayton, is a deeply prolific cat from Baltimore, releasing music since the mid-nineties on assorted tips; Deep House & Techno, Broken Beat, Hip Hop and Jazz, including his massive club track last year, 'Work It Out'. His collabs include DJ Spen, Kenny Dope, Peven Everett, Osunlade, Atjazz and releases on labels like Strictly Rhythm, Defected, BBE and Sonar Kollectiv. The list of remix projects is remarkable too, including among it Mary J Blige, Lenny Kravitz, Roy Ayers and Jocelyn Brown. Kris has been awarded various accolades as a DJ over the years; his technical prowess on CDJs being the stuff of legends. 'Gifted People' has a low-slung double-time beat as its backbone, cruising across a classic piano loop, whilst the flip sees 'Kaytronik's Gifted & Black Remix' transposing the same groove to a solid deep no-messin' 4/4 beat and bassline warm enough to thaw that pesky Winter ice off your dancing sneaks. Both sides are heads-down lights-off dancery affairs. These tracks were originally only available from TBG's fan site on a very limited release back in 2016. This is the first time these have ever been dropped on to the masses on a readily-available physical form! Don't expect this one to hang around for very long though… Essential piece of wax. Cannon & Mirrorball Black Rhythm Rap Cannon & Mirrorball may not be the disco edit scene's answer to moustache-sporting 1970s/80s comedy heroes Cannon and Ball, but they certainly serve up tracks that will put a big goofy smile on your face. Their latest Disco Bits adventure begins via "Black Rhythm Rap", a chunky, hip-hop friendly rework of an obscure, late 1970s disco-rap bomb rich in funky guitar licks, cut-glass strings and party-starting MC flows. On the flip they get even cheekier, placing Loleatta Holloway's incredible "Love Sensation" vocal over a stomping, Blaxploitation-era disco-funk backing track and all manner of familiar soul and funk samples. Purists will no doubt sneer, but they really shouldn't: this is tastefully produced disco heat of the highest order. Disco Bits 7"
