Soul Supreme Check the Rhime / Lyrics to Go Jazz runs deep through the music of A Tribe Called Quest. It's as Q-Tip infamously puts it inExcursions, the opening track of their sophomore album:"Don't you know that things go in cycles? The way that Bobby Brown is just ampin' like Michael."A new 7" release by Amsterdam-based, Jerusalem-born keyboardist, DJ & producer Soul Supreme is in its own way a reflection of that. The record features homages to iconic hip-hop tracks "Check The Rhime" & "Lyrics To Go" from a jazz perspective. "It's kinda ironic: these tracks are interpretations, but almosteverythingis different," says Soul Supreme. "The harmony, the melodies, the instruments that are used for each part, the structure… I want to take the listener on a trip to overlook a track they know, but from a different perspective. I try to go 'in and out' of the ATCQ tracks so the listener never knows what's going to happen next. My overall goal is to give existing music my own twist. I don't want to sound like a rehash of something listeners have heard before." Soul Supreme Records 7" Pre-Order

SoulBrigada Resense 048 After their brilliant debut on Resense, SoulBrigada returns with two new cuts. Following the proven formula, two classic Funk & Soul joints get the SoulBrigada treatment to fire up the dancefloors again. 'Help' is a Northern Soul gem from the midwest - from 1969. The raw & funky sound of the song follows with great perfection a JB style, which is complemented by the sweet soul voice of the singer. The SoulBrigada-Edit focuses even more on the percussive side of the song and the extension provides a real dancefloor filler. 'Love U Baby' is a great Soultune, which was also released in 1969 by a vocal duo from the southwest of the USA. The song stands out because of its funkiness and the great interaction of the two singers. The rework provides the right dose of funk with additional drums, repetitive editing and expansion. Otaku Gang Life After Death Star (Biggie vs Star Wars ) Star Wars & Notorious B.I.G. mash up! Here are two producers, Richie Branson and Solar Slim, who internalized Biggie rapping “Hit ‘em with the force like Obi” on “Hypnotize” so fully that Life After Death Star presumably serves as the official soundtrack to their worldview. You can almost hear the elevator pitch: Combine one of the most beloved rappers of all time with the most popular movie franchise ever, time it to coincide with a new installment of said franchise, and you’ve got yourself a nerdy artifact of the pop-culture canon, not to mention one helluva T-shirt. If the emboldened creator executes the concept smartly and un-sloppily — well, Luke hit smaller targets with his T-16 back home. LP

De La Soul x J Dilla Smell The DA.I.S.Y. This LP features the instrumentals of De La Soul's plus an unreleased J Dilla beat! We decided to release a all instrumental version of “Smell The D.A.I.S.Y.” to give people the experience of a J Dilla beat tape that we were so lucky to receive. These beat tapes were the springboard that generated creation and generated inspiration for us. The vinyl release is very, very limited, only 100 copies will be released to stores, to resemble the limited amount of beat tapes that Dilla would send out to artists like Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, Busta, and De La. Beastie Boys / mfsb / DJ Soopasoul Check It Out People The latest edition in DJ Soopasoul's "Soopastole Edits" series looks like it may fly off the shelves, and with good reason. The lead cut is not an edit per se, but rather a crafty, clever and expertly produced mash-up that places selected rap flows from the acapella version of Beastie Boys classic "Ch-Check It Out" over a tightened up and fattened up rearrangement of MFSB's disco-era jam "People All Over The World". Sometimes these kinds of mash-ups can be messy, but this genuinely isn't, with the Beasties' vocals fitting the backing track like a glove. Over on side B Soopasoul shares his tweak of the MFSB track, which is entirely instrumental bar periodic use of the band's female backing vocals. Soopastole 7"

In 2009, a group of seasoned funk and soul session musicians joined forces to record a rousing rhythm & blues-meets-funk cover version of Duffy's 2007 single "Mercy" making it a timeless version & feel good classic. Subsequently released on both Tri Sound and Acid Jazz, the track has become a must-have for soul DJs ever since. Sounding as though it might have been recorded in the late 60's it has a powerful funk driving backbeat ,thumping bass, soaring male soul vocal and screaming swirling Hammond organ. Mukatsuku 7"
Sunlightsquare Latin Combo I Believe In Miracles Here's Sunlightsquare's 10th Anniversary special red edition of "I Believe In Miracles" 7inch vinyl record. This is a repress from the same metalwork as the original 2010 release. One of the most played tracks in latin music circles worldwide for the past decade, this salsa cover of Jackson Sisters' 1973 hit was produced by British-Italian pianist and producer Claudio Passavanti. The recording features a 25 piece band recorded live in Cuba, at Instituto Cubano de Radio y Televisión in Havana. The original 45 has become very rare amongst vinyl collectors, being valued between 50 and 200 USD on Discogs at the time of writing. This special edition looks and sounds 100% as the original (pressed by the same plant using the same stamper) except... it's in bright red vinyl! Sunlightsquare Recordings 7"
