Polica When We Stay Alive The fifth full length album from American synth-poppers Poliça, titled When We Stay Alive. Sure to feature another dose of their spellbinding and mystical songwriting. The album's title references the idea of moving forward through life - our experiences, both good and bad - and what happens next with the strength we find. "I had been living unconsciously in past trauma," Leaneagh says. "I don't want to deny something happened - this is not about repression - it's about taking the power back from the past, holding the power in the present, and creating a new story for myself." Yeule Serotonin II yeule is the manifested reflection of Nat ?miel. An ongoing project since 2012, yeule’s music is as ethereal as it dynamic, reflective of her nomadic upbringing. Though she grew up and attended school in Singapore for most of her life, her family traveled often, developing emotional connections with places far from home that left her searching, unmoored, putting forth a creation that is in constant metamorphosis. Hot Chip A Bath Full of Ecstasy Limited LP is on 'crystal clear' vinyl and is packaged in a limited edition black & white sleeve. Regular LP is on black vinyl and packaged in the standard full colour sleeve. The new full length album from the acclaimed Hot Chip. A Bath Full of Ecstasy is a fresh, invigorating and essential new chapter in Hot Chip's career, taking in their huge breadth of influence and melody as only Hot Chip can. This is the first time the band have chosen to use outside producers from the offset, working with Philippe Zdar (Cat Power, Beastie Boys, Phoenix, Cassius) and Rodaidh McDonald (The XX, Sampha, David Byrne), and there is a marked dynamism in Zdar’s mixing that brings out the boldness of the songs collected here. The record is a celebration of joy but recognises the struggle it can take to get to that point of happiness. You can hear the pleasure Hot Chip had in creating this album and they want to pass on that feeling to the listener. It is time to get lost in A Bath Full of Ecstasy. Domino CD | LP
Aupheus Megalith The new full length album from UK-based electronic/hip-hop beatsmith AUPHEUS, combining sweeping sci-fi soundtrack sounds with raw hip-hop and featuring some special Strange Famous friends, who come along for the ride! Megalith is a compelling collision of disparate influences and technologies melded to form an unconventional sonic tapestry: “The album was heavily inspired by my favourite science fiction films of the 1980s and early 1990s and their soundtracks, along with the hip hop that I grew up listening to, and the writing of Philip K. Dick,” says Aupheus. It’s an ambitious mix of ambient sounds and doom-bap grit. “I used a range of digital and analog gear to achieve the sound I wanted, including vintage samplers, running things onto tape, using the turntables and various musical instruments in conventional and unconventional ways.” Megalith exists in the exciting overlap between the worlds of beat-making, composing, and sound design; a fusion of Electronic Sci-Fi and golden-era Hip Hop. Andrew Weatherall Blue Bullet EP Almost exactly a year after his first EP on Byrd Out (the Kiyadub EP), the legendary Andrew Weatherall returns with new material for a second release. Andrew invited a mate round to his studio to try out a Les Paul his friend was looking to buy. As it turns out, his mate was Ride's (and Oasis') guitarist Andy Bell. Anyway, Andrew suggested he test the guitar out over a track he was working on, and ‘Making Friends With The Invader’ is the resulting track, which Andrew paired with the EP’s title track ‘Blue Bullet’. Both tracks plough the trippy, cosmic dub furrow, and come in at a weighty 8 and 9 minutes plus. 1000 vinyl only. Grab them while you can! Mastered by Noel Summerville. Sunset Graves The Inevitable End Sunset Graves on ‘The Inevitable End’: “I had this thought: would it be possible to create an album using a really small palette of sound? I don’t choose when to write a record, it chooses me. And when I felt this one coming on, I knew that it needed to be nothing like any of my previous work. Things had changed, and my music needed to reflect that. So I started to layout my tools: synths, drums, samples and field recordings. The only rule was that I would use these, and only these, but I could process and add effects to them in any way I chose. I wanted to find detail by smashing drum elements into grains and coercing them back into shapes and patterns. I wanted to create texture by applying filters and stacks of EQ and reverb to synths. I wanted to give the album depth and life by recording sounds of the environment around me. The first drums you hear on ‘Lovr’ are an iPhone recording of me tapping the steel girder of a railway bridge. The road that never sleeps outside my home is the bed on which ‘Solace’ lies. By processing, stretching, crushing and pushing, finding elements and artifacts and using them as new starting points, an eco system of sound began to form, and the album exists within that. However, I also wanted the album to have a heart and resonate emotionally. And I wanted it to sound huge.” Spun Out Of Control Out of Stock
