Toy
Thursday 31st January at Banquet Records, 7:30pm
In the week their acclaimed fourth full length album is out, toy return to Kingston to play in the shop. Atmospheric, post-punk influenced tunes. If you're into the likes of The Horrors, Wooden Shjips, Spiritualized or Brian Jonestown Massacre then give this a listen and come check them out.
Happy In The Hollow is entirely uncompromising: an atmospheric capturing of a state of mind that touches on Post Punk, electronic dissonance, acid folk and Krautrock. Familiar qualities like metronomic rhythms, warping guitars, undulating synths and Tom’s gentle, reedy vocals are all in there, but so is a greater emphasis on melody, a wider scope, and a combining of the reassuring and the sinister that is as unnerving as it is captivating.' The sound has without doubt expanded — and grown more confident — in part because this is the first album for which Toy has become a self-sufficient five-person unit doing everything for themselves. “Each song was a blank canvas,” says Maxim. “Producers inevitably develop their own patterns over time, right down to certain drum sounds. We were starting from scratch and it felt very creative as a result. It’s an album we feel deeply connected to”.
In-store Grade B.
Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Happy In The Hollow from us.
Albums and tickets for collection at our shop on the evening of the in-store, please bring your order number with you.

Bring Me The Horizon / Acoustic + Q&A
Friday 15th March at Pryzm
Following the release of their new album, amo, the modern-rock gods Bring Me The Horizon are back in Kingston to play a short, acoustic set at Pryzm with a Q&A. This event will take place AFTER the signing at Banquet Records. The new full length album has seen a huge, daring approach and a massive polarisation amongst their fan base, amo has seen the band completely evolve and experiment and we're excited to ask them some questions about it and witness a rare and intimate acoustic set.
There's little one can add to what's already been said. Massive sounds and a pioneering approach, we don't need to do any hard sell to you.
Kingpins of modern British rock, Bring Me The Horizon‘s success is a tale of perseverance and redemption, while their evolution from scrappy, deathcore-peddling teens to the boundary-smashing behemoths they are today is integral to the wider success of modern British metal.
TIMES TBC, but we expect doors at 7:00pm with the band on at 8:00pm.
Pryzm is all ages for this show - under 14s must be accompanied by an adult. Over 18s should bring PHOTO ID (driving license / passport).

Steve Hackett / Q&A + Signing Session
Saturday 26th January at The Fighting Cocks, 3:00pm
Celebrating the release of his new album, the legendary Steve Hackett comes to town for a Q&A + signing session. Formerly of Genesis, At The Edge of Light is Steve's 25th full length as a solo artist and sees him fusing a wave of different styles of rock to grand orchestration to grand atmospherics. He's most certainly had an incredible career and we're excited to be able to have a Q&A, signing session and a drink with this legend. Roger King will be the question master / compere for this!
"In these dangerous times, deep shadows feel even sharper than usual and we find ourselves standing at the edge of light... The contrast between dark and light weaves its way throughout the album in many ways, from the sense of good fighting evil through to the interplay of dark and light opposites magically combining in cultures, including the heartbeat of India and primal tribal rhythms. Ultimately, this album embraces the need for all musical forms and cultures to connect and celebrate the wonder of unity in this divided world."
Doors will be at 3:00pm.
Tickets and albums for collection at the venue on the afternoon of the event - please bring your order number with you.
Album+Tickets are available from £12, or LP combos from £20. Alternative options are also available here.

The Twilight Sad
Friday 25th January at Banquet Records, 6:00pm
Just after the release of their new album, James and Andy of The Twilight Sad play an intimate acoustic set in the shop.
The Scottish legends are back with their fifth full length titled IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME, that follows on from 2014's Nobody Wants To Leave. Big and emotive post-punk soaked alternative tunes, they were last here in the shop in 2015 and we are delighted for their return. If you're into the likes of The National, The Cure, Editors or Interpol, then you need to get into this band.
From their unassuming origins as a group of school friends drawn together by a shared passion for music to the global touring force (supporting The Cure and Editors at arenas and stadiums), they have quietly become, The Twilight Sad’s ascent has been forged the old way with grit, graft and four exceptional studio albums. Now signed to Mogwai’s Rock Action Records, the bands fifth album does not disappoint and will certainly not disappoint fans of their previous works.
In-store Grade A.
Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME from us.
