Akala / Beans On Toast / The Lagan
Sunday 6th September at Kingston Carnival
We're delighted Kingston Carnival is back for 2015. We've selected some great ethically-driven bands to play live in The Market Place for Kingston Race & Equalities Council. For us, Kingston Carnival is one of the best days in the Kingston calendar. After its cancellation last year we've been as involved as anyone to make sure it's back for 2015, an event which brings all parts of the community together. With Kingston Race & Equalities Council being the people behind the whole event, it's essential the line up reflects music with a message, and Akala, Beans On Toast and The Lagan each have something important to say, whilst also putting on brilliant live shows. We’re really excited, and hope you are too. Headlining is London's MOBO award-winning soulful hip hop rapper, poet and journalist Akala. He's a world renowned artist who began with grime but evolved his sound into conscientious hip hop representing topics of racism, class struggle and social conditioning. The live shows are energetic, engaging and always highly rated. He will be performing with a full backing band! Beans On Toast makes a welcome return to town. A super-fun solo acoustic witty-folk-punk musician and lyricist that tackles everyday subjects from politics, humour, animal rights and even love songs. Kingston's very own The Lagan bring us politically motivated celtic-punk sing a longs. You might have seen them at the last carnival! As well as music there'll be a colourful procession through town, food stalls and entertainment and much more. This is a communal celebration open to anyone and any age and it's totally free. But to help the sustainability of the carnival, donations are being gratefully received over at this LocalGiving page. We, at Banquet will match the first 500 donated, to help make this not only a great day this year, but to secure the long-term running of this annual event. Stage times (approx): Akala 5:45 Beans On Toast 4:40 The Lagan 3:40 others TBC First act will start at 1pm at Market Place, with a strict 7pm curfew.
