dBridge / Skeptical Move Way Expected 12th August Repeater visitor dBridge teams up With Skeptical, (who recently played in the shop), for the a.side of this 12", flip for a couple clas dBridge solo tracks. Defo feeling this EP on R&S, proper deep, half step business here! The record opens with a sample of simultaneously hilarious and deadly serious Jamaican dread wisdom, that leads into the Skeptical collaboration 'Move Way'. This is track is a perfect example of the half-tempo rhythms that dBridge helped pioneer, a kind of d'n'b parallel to the deepest dubstep yet which still maintains the momentum of 170bpm parent genre through subliminal flickers of percussion. 'Death of a Drum Machine' is a more standard d'n'b roller rhythmically but is embellished by filmic piano chords and absolutely exquisite production. Finally 'Plain to See' steps outside genre completely. Again with the half-step/double time thing going on, it's simply a piece of awesome electronica: a love letter to vintage electronic drum sounds yet utterly modern, rich in slowly unfolding layers of synth melody and harmony, and the perfect counterpart to the other two tracks on this perfectly structured EP R&S Records 12" Out of Stock
Skeptical / Alix Perez Elephant Dreams Belgian producer Alex Perez steps aside from his long-standing association with Shogun Audio to launch his own label, 1985 Records. Described by the man himself as a "platform rooted primarily in the 85 / 170 BPM bracket but also going beyond with no rules applied," the label sets a high bar in the quality stakes with this Elephant Dreams 12" from Perez himself. Taut moody rolling ruffage is the order of the day on the title cut, one of two collaborations with Skeptical, whilst "Had I Known" offers a more hopeful vibe before a dank mood descends on "STNKR". This broken slab of bass science is the highlight here, though the closing brittle jungle of Skeptical co-production "Room 667" isn't far behind! 1985 Music 12" Out of Stock
Mosaic Vol. 2 (Sampler) Skeptical / Synkro / ST Files / INSTRA:MENTAL Exit Records Vol. 2 Sampler featuring Skeptical, Synkro, ST Files and Instra:mental. No one thought it was possible, but the second volume of Exit's Mosaic series looks even better than the stunning launch volume. Need persuading? Just press play. "Eyes Down" is an uncompromising techy tribal affair, "The Way" is a lush, yearning soulful stepper trembling atop a bed of oozing sub, "Eric Bristow" is an emotive driver, charged by crisp nylon string acoustic guitars while "Fist Level 2B" leads us down a deep, dark alley and switches off every light possible. Genuinely beautiful. Exit Records 12" Out of Stock
