Shura White Light Latest single from Anglo-Russian producer / singer Shura Epic but intimate, ‘White Light’ is a bold step out of the bedroom-based R&B balladry which has quickly earned Shura an impassioned audience, instead combining Arthur Rusell-inspired disco and a love for the undulating psych-rock of The War On Drugs to entrancing effect. Lyrically, the track started out about Shura’s twin brother, before picking up the sci-fi thread which runs through her visuals to describe an alien first glimpsed in the ‘Mass Effect’ game. Ultimately, though, ‘White Light’ is simply about being different, and joins the likes of ‘2Shy’ in embracing the social weirdness which actually makes you unique. Polydor 12"

Shura Thursday 15th August at Banquet Records, 6:00pm The night before her new album is released, the electro-tinged indie popper Shura returns to Kingston to play an intimate set in the shop. She was last in Kingston in 2016 at New Slang with her debut album, We're super excited to have her back and to hear some new songs from her second album titled forevher. ‘forevher,’ then, is a record born from a budding romance, covering everything from the initial pull of desire, to the giddy joy of finally being together, to recognising the moment when the connection develops from lust into something scarily meaningful. Here is a classic London-to-NYC love story, but one told through the filter of dating apps and Skype chats. And whilst how to live – and love – as a queer woman has always been integral to Shura, it’s remarkable to hear these stories twisted through such a gorgeous amalgam of influences: Joni Mitchell and Minnie Riperton, Bon Iver and Frank Ocean, Prince and Ariel Pink. Through these inspirations, Shura’s own modern, outlier perspective found a newer, more daring approach to sound and song. In-store Grade B. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of forevher from us. Albums will be posted, tickets are for collection from the shop on the day of the in-store, please bring your order number with you. The Album is released 16th August. CD | LP Past Event
