Always Lead, Never Follow
KKKK Kerrang! • 7/10 Rock Sound.
It's been a long time coming and we're chuffed to say we're releasing the debut album by Banquet buddies Scholars. They've played with the likes of Mallory Knox, Don Broco, Canterbury, Pure Love, Twin Atlantic, Hell Is For Heroes and Hundred Reasons, often in Kingston - if you like anything about any of those bands, there's something here for you.
Scholars have distilled their live prowess into a modern rock record in the Banquet tradition, one that's as intelligent as it's fun, one that's worth shouting about!
Produced by Larry Hibbitt (Hundred Reasons, Marmozets) designed by Dave House.
Always Lead, Never Follow' captures all of their live energy and more. In 13 tracks it spans the breadth of Scholars' abilities. And with singer Sam's anthropological look at the world around him leading the attack, lyrically it darts between the state of the British press, to mass hysteria to yes, even love. It's as diverse in its sound as its message.
The album, then, is the culmination of six years of hard work, life experience and giving it your all. The gestation period is now over.

Wednesday 21st June
at Boston Music Room
Tickets for collection at the venue on the night of the show - no booking fee. Please take your order number with you. Venue collection tickets cannot be collected from the shop, so please don't select that option at check out. Just after the release of their second album on our Banquet label, Scholars return to live action. One show, no tour. Combining a unique lyrical worldview with the best bits of new wave, punk and Britpop, they're at turns life-affirming and genuinely touching - and they've honed their knack for a massive chorus. For many bands, performance seems to be an afterthought. For Scholars, it’s everything. A ball of frenetic, unpredictable energy, they hit the sweet spot between tension and entertainment. Venerating the post-punk artistry of Adam and the Ants, The Cardiacs’ schizoid energy, Fugazi's grit and work ethic and Dexys Midnight Runners’ classic songwriting, Scholars do not want to form a partnership with a brand, appear on a reality TV show or do a fashion shoot. Their aim is to write really good songs and play them brilliantly live. 14+ only. 14s to 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Long-awaited new material from Scholars, following on from 2013's indie-chart-topping Always Lead, Never Follow, released on our Banquet label. Lyrically it's got a unique worldview, musically they've honed their knack with a massive chorus. Looking forward to the new album!
