Polica United Crushers indies only rose colour LP Third album from Polica. Really good avant-garde electro! The record, a tribute to their hometown of Minneapolis, was named after the graffiti tag seen throughout the city as a reminder of its bleak past and uncertain future and is short for “United States of Dreams Be Crushed.” Even at its darkest, the record is musically the band's most upbeat and celebratory. It is a weapon meant to empower the weak, the forgotten, and the disenfranchised; its very creation an act of rebellion in the face of the hopelessness that casts such a long shadow over Middle America's slow urban decline. Polica Shulasmith Second album from Minneapolis indie R&B outfit Polica, following up from their debut Give You the Ghost, The album also features Bon Iver's Justin Vernon on the first single Tiff . From the flurry of warped metallic electronica and razorsharp groove of opener ‘Chain My Name’, with its stark and rushing refrain, the angular R&B-pop futurism of ‘I Need $’, its sweetly earworm hook belying lyrics of alternately helplessness and defiance, to the gliding, bird’s eye meditation of closer ‘So Leave’, ‘Shulamith’ reaffirms Poliça as one of the most fascinating and vital groups in forward-thinking pop. https://www.facebook.com/thisispolica Memphis Industries CD | LP
Polica / s t a r g a z e Bruise Blood: Reimagining Steve Reichs Music for Pieces of Wood A collaboration between Polica and electronic pop band s t a r g a z e, re-imagining and re-recording Steve Reich's famous 1973 composition Music For Pieces Of Wood. The first of a pair of records from this collaboration, this release sees them take minimalist pioneer Steve Reich’s Music For Pieces of Wood corrupting its polyrhythms across a continuous twenty minutes of music, pushing the boundaries of both artists in a truly engrossing and transportative collaboration. Polica Thursday 6th February at St John's Church Celebrating the release of their new album, Poliça visit Kingston to play at St John's Church. The American synth-poppers' fifth full length album is titled When We Stay Alive, and is sure to feature another dose of their spellbinding and mystical songwriting. "I don't want to deny something happened - this is not about repression - it's about taking the power back from the past, holding the power in the present, and creating a new story for myself."
