Mungo's Hi Fi You See Me Star Charlie first came to Glasgow in 2010 for one of Mungo’s Hi Fi’s legendary nights at the Artschool. This was the beginning of their working relationship which has seen countless recording sessions and continuous touring around every corner of the globe. This album is the culmination of this ongoing relationship and brings together the best tracks across the styles that he loves, from roots reggae and dancehall to modern bass music. Some are surprised to see a young white guy with a Jamaican accent, but it is his musical language and Charlie is not pretending to be anything but himself - a man with a passion for good ganja and reggae dancehall Scotch Bonnet CD | LP
Mungo's Hi Fi / Mr. Williamz Industry Mungo's reach back and with a rub a dub revamp one of Jamaica’s most elegant rocksteady classics with Industry ft Mr Williamz. Prince Fatty and Horseman have laid a deeply dubby reggae lick-over of the backing to Derrick Harriott's 1967 hit Solomon. In keeping with the original's gender political lyrics, the unflappable Mr Willz shrugs off an encounter with a woman more attracted to the glamour of the sound business than him. Squarewave / Doctor / Mungo's Hi Fi / YT Vital Techniques & Mikey B remixes Hailing from Leeds, the production unit and brothers Vital Techniques are on fire right now, setting light across all genres under the bass music bracket. Along with Mikey B, the trio step up with two of their best remixes to date: this version of Squarewave and Doctor - Police Officer has been literally destroying dance floors worldwide. Mungo's have been championing this track for sometime now and have said they rarely play a gig without someone asking "what is that police officer tune...?" The flip brings the Boomsound remix - original track forthcoming from Mungo's Hi Fi and YT. In true Vital Techniques style a sound system roller is transformed into a climactic banger. An essential record for lovers of 140 and bass music. Scotch Bonnet LP
Mungo's Hi Fi / Sugar Minott / Daddy Freddy / Chimpo Ragamuffin Mungo’s Hi Fi held a recording session with Sugar Minott in Glasgow in 2009, not knowing that he would sadly pass away six months later. This record features his raggamuffin vocal which has been complemented with Daddy Freddy at his growling best, which he was proud to record alongside his friend and mentor. The 12” features on one side Mungo’s Hi Fi’s original dubby smasher, which has been one of their most requested tracks since they started playing it out on dubplate. The other side is their first collaboration with Chimpo, who has pulled out all the stops to take the homage to Zinc’s Super Sharp Shooter to the next level. You need this record Scotch Bonnet 12"
Mungo's Hi Fi Serious Time The Scottish soundsystem unleash a great album of modern / digital reggae sounds! Their third double LP arrives hot on the heels of their massive collaborations with Major Lazer and Prince Fatty and showcases all aspects of soundsystem bizness, from Studio One style live brass to digital bass bangers all beautifully threaded together. As well as the fat, clean productions you would expect, the album hosts vocal talent by the ton. With reggae heavyweights Cornel Campbell and Peter Metro rubbing shoulders with Mungo's regulars Mr Williamz, Soom T, Charlie P, YT, Marina P, Solo Banton and Parly B. As if that was not enough there are spectacular guest appearances from Blackout JA, Speng Bond, Pupajim and Warrior Queen. Elen G's cover artwork shows the soundsystem ship tossed on heavy seas with tentacles threatening to take it under – serious times indeed. Scotch Bonnet CD | LP
Mungo's Hi Fi More Fyah Glasgow-based soundsystem and production unit, Mungo's Hi Fi, are pleased to announce the release of new album ‘More Fyah’, a stunning collaboration with UK singer and MC, Eva Lazarus. Released 19th July via Scotch Bonnet Records, the album follows the success of their 2017 hook-up on the extremely popular ‘Amsterdam’ EP. A genre-melding masterpiece, ‘More Fyah’ traverses between reggae, dub, dancehall and other bass flavours. Eva seamlessly tackles every track with her unique lyrical flow and wide vocal range, matched by Mungo's infectious signature sound. From the rocksteady relick of ‘Dub Be Good To Me’, the ragga mash-up title track ‘More Fyah’, the summery riddims of ‘Light As A Feather’, featuring London reggae artist Kiko Bun, to the roots sampling ‘Babylon Raid’, featuring Jamaican reggae legend Max Romeo, Mungo’s have a sound that is deeply rooted in dub and reggae’s lineage, backed by the sharp, sassy and slick vocals of Eva Lazarus. Mungo's Hi Fi Jump in line / Send Di Water If we have stock left it will be available online from Saturday 23rd April, strictly one per customerLimited edition 7" Jump in the line - rock your body in time - this calypso classic was originally written by Lord Kitchener in the 1940s and later covered by Lord Invader, Lord Flea and Harry Belafonte. It has remained a favourite for a full 80 years, appearing in films such as Beetlejuice where Winona Rider wines out to it. This version comes out of it being an old time classic show stopper for Mungo’s Hi Fi from around 15 years ago, so much so that they rebuilt the track in their own style. The single features the original Acker Bilk vocal, as well as a rare Mikey Murka carnival cut. Scotch Bonnet 7" RSD 2016
