Julien Baker Funeral Pyre / Distant Solar System The new 7" from Julien Baker that follows from her 2015 album Sprained Ankle. The 7" features two new songs, Funeral Pyre and Distant Solar System that see the singer-songwriter continue to create extremely fragile and haunting songs. Some may recognise her from touring with Touche Amore and featuring on their track Skyscraper. Only Baker can make a song with such a darkly macabre title so heartbreakingly gorgeous, with her signature hushed-yet- lofty vocals soaring over a quietly fingerpicked melody that crescendos into layered, almost-orchestral beauty. Julien Baker Saturday 11th November at Banquet Records, midday Tickets for collection at the shop on the day of the in-store, please bring your order number with you. Albums will be posted. Following the release of her new album Julien Baker plays a midday set in the shop. Her second studio album Turn Out The Lights is released on 27th October and she'll be in the shop the day after her sold out London show. She plays highly haunting, heartbreaking, atmospheric and emotionally-charged tunes that are built on layers, confessional lyrics and moments of catharsis. She's rooted herself firmly in the emo/punk/hardcore world having featured on Touche Amore's latest album, supported Paramore and Brand New have been covering her songs at their shows, but if you're into the likes of early Laura Marling, The National, Conor Oberst or Deathcab For Cutie then this is one to get on your radar. Recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in Baker’s hometown of Memphis, TN, Turn Out The Lights expands upon the sound and vision of Sprained Ankle while retaining the haunting, confessional songwriting style for which she has become known. Throughout the album, Baker reflects on experiences of her own and those closest to her, exploring the internal conflicts that wrestle inside us all: how we deal and cope with our struggles, and how it all impacts both ourselves and our relationships of all kinds. The result is a deeply empathetic album that embraces the grays and complex truths of humanity and mental health. Turn Out The Lights was written and produced by Baker, and mixed by Craig Silvey (The National, Arcade Fire, Florence & the Machine). In-store Grade B. Anyone is welcome but priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Turn Out The Lights from us. CD | LP Past Event
