Turn Out The Lights
NEW COLOURWAY.
We're the UK carrier for the latest limited colourway, 'green in cloudy clear' vinyl.
-
The critically acclaimed second studio album from the rapidly rising emo-influenced singer-songwriter Julien Baker. She plays highly haunting, heartbreaking, atmospheric and emotionally-charged tunes that are built on layers, confessional lyrics and moments of catharsis. She's rooted herself firmly in the emo/punk/hardcore world having featured on Touche Amore's 2016 album, supported Paramore and Brand New have been covering her songs at their shows, but if you're into the likes of early Laura Marling, The National, Conor Oberst or Deathcab For Cutie then this is one to get on your radar.
Recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in Baker’s hometown of Memphis, TN, Turn Out The Lights expands upon the sound and vision of Sprained Ankle while retaining the haunting, confessional songwriting style for which she has become known. Throughout the album, Baker reflects on experiences of her own and those closest to her, exploring the internal conflicts that wrestle inside us all: how we deal and cope with our struggles, and how it all impacts both ourselves and our relationships of all kinds. The result is a deeply empathetic album that embraces the grays and complex truths of humanity and mental health. Turn Out The Lights was written and produced by Baker, and mixed by Craig Silvey (The National, Arcade Fire, Florence & the Machine).

To celebrate the release of her highly anticipated third full length album titled Little Oblivions, Julien Baker links up for a full-band virtual in-store.
Following on from Turn Out The Lights, that landed high up on our top albums of 2017 list. Julien is back with her third album and another dose of her spellbinding, atmospheric and cathartic songwriting whilst pushing into new territory and incorporating more instrumentation than we've previously heard.
Little Oblivions is the third studio album by Julien Baker. Recorded in Memphis, TN, the record weaves together unflinching autobiography with assimilated experience and hard-won observations from the past few years, taking Baker’s capacity for storytelling to new heights. It also marks a sonic shift, with the songwriter’s intimate piano and guitar arrangements newly enriched by bass, drums, keyboards, banjo, and mandolin with nearly all of the instruments performed by Baker.
