"I’m very excited to share with you all the news of my forthcoming retrospective album ‘Songbook’. I wanted to release a document of what I've done so far, including my favourite recorded songs, 10 new alternative versions of older songs, and one new track. It's a moment of reflection and celebration of my work as a songwriter to date."

One of New Slang's oldest and dearest friends returns in support of his new album in the week it's released!A Frank Turner gig in this venue formed the very creation of New Slang so it's always extra special when Frank returns to our patch. Coming up to a decade on from these "cover my petrol and give us some beer" shows, Frank Turner has quite rightly turned into one of the nation's most treasured artists. A more "band" sound to his songs and story telling, you might recognise him from shows at Wembley Arena, The Olympics, or the guy at the back of the punk show. We always hoped Frank would return to Kingston with this new album, so we're stoked for the re-turner of Frank Turner with his backing band The Sleeping Souls. Playing the hour before the release of new album Positive Songs For Negative People comes out, is gonna be a special event. They will be onstage just after 10:30 Support comes from Frank Turner label-mate PJ Bond an americana / folk-punk acoustic singer songwriter from New Jersey. First up is Chas Palmer-Williams is known for being one of the crazy Lightyear gang, but his solo material is lyrical genius. We love this so much we're going to release his full length on Banquet Records later this year. Also, after the bands we'll have local talent of Tim OT in room 2. He's a great guy you've seen around, and if you like Frank Turner, Will Varley, Sean McGowan then grab a beer and stick around a bit longer Stage times: Chas Palmer-Wiliams 9:15-9:45 PJ Bond 10:00-10:30 Frank Turner 10:45 onwards then Tim OT in the bar at about midnight Afterwards its New Slang as usual and we dance to the likes of Foals, Circa Waves, Django Django and The Shins till 2am! Please Note: The Hippodrome is an 18+ venue. Valid PHOTO ID will be required

Thursday 20th November
at New Slang
Frank Turner is one of the greatest friends of the shop. Indeed, New Slang was only conceived when we plugged Frank and his guitar into a DJ mixer back in 2006. Since then he’s grown into one of the nation’s real musical treasures, as well as playing Wembley Arena, The Olympics and he’s headlining Brixton again next month as a part of Xfm's Winter Wonderland with other recent Kingston visitors, Catfish And The Bottlemen, The Horrors and To Kill A King. In real Frank Turner style, he’s keeping true to his roots, and coming back to Kingston for what is now an intimate solo show. This Thursday will be his 16th show for Banquet, and his 6th time at New Slang. In support of the new b-sides album "The Third Three Years", we’re gonna hear a bunch of tracks we never normally get to hear live, plus a healthy smattering of live favourites. You can pick up the new b-sides album and a ticket for a steal at A10.Supporting it's the wonderful stylings of Billy The Kid, who's currently on tour with Against Me! and had her fourth, and most recent, album produced by Frank Turner. And opening up is local alt.folk singer Tim OT Stage times: Tim OT 9:15-9:45 Billy The Kid 10:00-10:30 Frank Turner 10:45-> Afterwards it's New Slang prices as usual and we dance to indie hits from the like of Royal Blood, Jamie T, Gaslight Anthem and Jungle until 2AM Please Note: McClusky's is an 18+ venue. Valid PHOTO ID will be required. 9pm - 2am McClusky's, 4 Bishops Hall, Thames St, Kingston, KT1 1QN

(T)here from before the birth of Banquet as we know it today, there's been countless instores, Peel shows and New Slangs in the last ten years. So it's completely fitting that the now world superstar (he played the freaking Olympics) guy, ace musician / songwriter, and outright friend of the shop comes back to play here on the celebration of independent record stores that is Record Store Day. Frank has a 7" out for RSD which we hope we'll still have copies of by 7pm on the night., However, at this point we're restricting entry to those who buy the new album from us, which is released the day after RSD13. 7pm start with all ages welcome.
