Beans On Toast
A Spanner In The Works
It wouldn't be the first of December without a new Beans On Toast album as the tradition now goes. He never fails to deliver acoustic, politically inspired folk-punk and doesn't fail here on his eighth album. With his unfaltering DIY ethic still at the forefront of its making, ‘A Spanner In The Works’ sees Beans embracing technology to create a record simply made on a laptop, around a mate’s house. While the new recordings still have Beans’ trademark three chord folk songs at their heart, this time around each track is layered in myriad beats, loops, synths and samples, spanning an array of genres and styles, that make for an album by Beans unlike any you’ve heard before. Recorded over a single weekend with old friend and long time collaborator Scampi Dan, the album is a fresh and different, but very much a welcome addition to the Beans On Toast catalogue.

Beans On Toast
Tuesday 3rd December at Banquet Records, 6:00pm
A now-traditional Kingston visit from Beans on Toast, to celebrate the release of his new album The Inevitable Train Wreck.
Taking on more of an old-school rock 'n' roll sound than his usual folk-punk songwriting, but still focusing his classic and witty lyrics on the bleak future of the human race.
Taking inspiration from musical icons such as Chuck Berry and Otis Redding, as well as modern thinkers like Noah Yuval Harari and Greta Thunberg, the album is a collaborative project between Beans and Lewis & Kitty Durham from the much-loved family band, Kitty, Daisy and Lewis. Beans wrote the collection of songs and brought them to Lewis and Kitty, who then rewrote the music behind the lyrics and produced the record in their studio, “Durham Sound Studios”, changing the sound from acoustic folk to the wonderful piece of work we present to you today.
“Life is ridiculous, it is hilarious, it can be dangerous and sometimes even tedious. But it’s resilient and it is beautiful and I believe in it. Long may it continue”
