New Slang

Circa Waves at New Slang this week | last New Slang for a little while

This week

Circa Waves

The night before their new record is released, Circa Waves play in Kingston.

The New Slang regulars return again in celebration of their fourth full length album titled Sad Happy, following on from 2019's What's It Like Over There. Expect another excellent offering of their dynamic and anthemic indie-rock driven tunes.

An album of our times, ‘Sad Happy’ is formed of two diametrically distinctive sides - the first half of the record contains the Happy tracks, the latter the Sad tracks.

Lead single ‘Jacqueline’ is unveiled today as the first taste of ‘Sad Happy’. Listen here. An infectious, Soweto flavoured groove, ‘Jacqueline’ is another bold slice of bright, life-affirming pop from the pen of Kieran Shudall, who is establishing himself as one of Britain’s most prolific young songwriters. With it’s infectious chorus and refrain of ‘Good times are coming around the bend’, Jacqueline is at once instantly recognisable and also another bold sonic leap forward for Circa Waves. It’s a song that’ll sit effortlessly amongst a setlist already brimming with anthems.

This will be the last New Slang for a little while. So make sure you stay after the band to enjoy some of your favourite songs and wait for all this to blow over. You can expect to hear the likes of The Cribs, Liam Gallagher, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Wolf Alice, Maximo Park and many more until 2AM. All drinks will be decanted.

No New Slang for a while. Wash your hands to New Slang.

We're not expecting any New Slangs after this Circa Waves gig, until we return with Sports Team. You'll see the news as much as we do, but no bands have been looking to book gigs in late March, and you can see why. We have a great run of shows on the horizon, but should any need to be postponed, we'll figure future events for them in due course.

Stay safe and wash your hands.

See you on the other side.

Coming up

Sports Team

The night before the release of their hugely anticipated debut full length record titled Deep Down Happy, the acclaimed indie-rockers Sports Team return to Kingston to headline New Slang.

Sports Team a band of six singular characters who have been variously described as one of the most raucous, electrifying and chaotic acts in the UK release their debut album Deep Down Happy. The highly anticipated record, is their first release on the legendary Island Records label. Sports Team came up on the back of word of mouth live hype, drawing round the block queues to chaotic early gigs at The Five Bells and Moth Club before releasing any music. Recording their first EP (Winter Nets) in a converted Timberyard in Hammersmith, the band have consistently set themselves apart from the acts they came up playing with, showing an intoxicating ambition, and their debut album Deep Down Happy, delivers on all bold claims, and confirm their place at the head of a group of young guitar acts.
