BASTILLE WEEK | Shows coming up with Two Door CInema Club, Hot Chip + FOALS | The Futureheads just announced

This week:

Bastille

To celebrate the release of their hugely anticipated third full length album, the wonderful Bastille return to Kingston to play at New Slang. Following on from 2016's Wild World, the unique, cinematic and electric-fuelled indie-pop quartet bring Doom Days. We're super excited to hear another offering of their huge music and live shows.

The new album captures the need to temporarily switch off and escape whilst taking the listener on a big night out in search of distraction from the surrounding apocalypse; be that screaming along to the radio in the back of an Uber careering through the city (the electric Quarter Past Midnight), getting loved up in the company of good friends (future classic 4AM), a casual hook-up (Another Place) or the end-of-night longing to be with somebody (the captivating Those Nights). It revels in the bad decisions we make both personally in our relationships and collectively on a macro scale (Bad Decisions), tells a relatable tale of being cornered into a deep discussion about the world's problems when all you want to do is have a good time (Million Pieces), and wryly confronts modern anxieties, taking side-swipes at phone addiction, porn addiction, fake news and climate change denial (the uncompromising Doom Days).

Times TBC but we expect doors at 9:00pm with Bastille on at 10:30pm.

After the show, it's New Slang as usual where you can expect to hear the likes of CHVRCHES, Biffy Clyro, Catfish & The Bottlemen, The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, The Vaccines and many more until 2AM.

Coming up:

Two Door CInema Club

The Kingston visitors Two Door Cinema Club make a warm and welcoming return to celebrate the release of their fourth full length album False Alarm. We've been big fans for a long time and they're no strangers to New Slang. We can't wait to hear more of their heart-melting infectious indie-pop.

Recorded in sessions between London and LA with producer Jacknife Lee (U2, REM, The Killers), it's an LP that takes the familiar and twists it, to startling and stimulating effect. Take the distorted boudoir soul of 'Think', or 'So Many People', which electronically skews classic Chic-style disco guitar, and the multidimensional lounge pop of 'Break' which sounds like an AI trying to write a Beatles song. It all makes for a wide-eyed, culture- encompassing leap forward for the band, a record liable to break, ruin and remould pop in 2019.

The New Slang show sold out extremely quickly, but we've added an extra all ages show that'll take place earlier on at Pryzm with tickets available now.

Just announced:

Futureheads

Celebrating the release of their new album, The Futureheads play at New Slang for the first time in 7 years. A special band to us, and one of the founding bands of New Slang so we're excited for their return, both in general and to Kingston specifically. Powers will mark the sixth full length studio album from the band and follows on from 2012's Rant.
