Nilufer Yanya Thursday 21st March at Banquet Records, 6:00pm The day before her new album is released, Nilufer Yanya plays in the shop. She mixes up pop, RnB, jazz and indie to create a distinct and addictive sound on her highly anticipated debut album, Miss Universe. Now, Nilufer is ready to release her debut album, Miss Universe. Though she recorded much of it in the same remote Cornwall studio she used to jam in as a much younger person, it is bigger and more ambitious than anything she has done before. ‘Angels’, with its muted, harmonic riffs, channels ideas “of paranoid thoughts and anxiety” - a theme that runs through the album, not least in its conceptual spoken word interludes which emanate from a fictional health management company WWAY HEALTH TM. “You sign up, and you pay a fee,” explains Nilüfer of the automated messages, which are littered through the album and are narrated by the titular Miss Universe. “They sort out all of your dietary requirements, and then they move onto medication, and then maybe you can get a better organ or something… and then suddenly it starts to get a bit weird. You're giving them more of you and to what end?” In-store Grade C. Come on down. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Miss Universe from us. CD | LP
Lucy Rose Monday 25th March at Banquet Records, 6:00pm Just days after the release of her new album, Lucy Rose returns to Kingston to play in the shop. Following on from her stunning 2017 album, Something's Changing, Lucy is back with another offering of her mesmerizing voice and songwriting for No Words Left. If Something’s Changing was an artist rediscovering their voice, No Words Left is Lucy using that voice to devastatingly frank effect. Lyrically and musically fearless, this record is a beautifully intense, but often unsettling listen. It’s a body of work, a fine modern example of the enduring strength of the album format. "I always hope my music would be a comfort to someone, however this record may not be the easiest listen. But it’s in its discomfort I believe a different form of comfort can be found. I’m certain of it." In-store Grade B. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of No Words Left from us. Albums and tickets for collection at our shop on the evening of the in-store. Please bring your order number with you. CD | LP
Anteros Tuesday 26th March at Banquet Records, 6:00pm Celebrating the release of their new album, Anteros visit the shop. The debut full length from the delightful indie-poppers is titled When We Land and features a wonderful dose of melodic, infectious, hook driven tracks that's certain to get your head nodding and foot stomping. The album for us was like an initiation into life in your twenties. I think you hit your twenties and you realise you actually don’t know a lot about life and you have to start figuring everything out from there, so the whole album is about life lessons in a way. We recorded it with Charlie Andrew who’s worked with some amazing artists like Marika Hackman and alt-J and Crystal Fighters. A lot of it was recorded live as well. It’s been an awesome experience to have the chance to be like, ‘this is our slower song’ or ‘this is going to be the more vulnerable one’, because up until now, it’s all been quite uptempo. In-store Grade C. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of When We Land from us. CD | LP

The collaborative album is titled 'A Window To Other Ways', and will see them combine they acclaimed folk / roots songwriting. Waterson and Barker discovered an immediate kinship when they started writing together. The intriguing combination of Waterson's poetic lyrics and Barker's eclectic musicality has been shaped in the studio by musical polymath Adem Ilhan. Rozi Plain Thursday 4th April at Banquet Records, 5:30pm The day before her new full length solo album is released Rozi Plain visits the shop. Playing her finely crafted and extremely delightful indie-folk songs. Rozi Plain has been making music since her brother taught her a few chords on the guitar aged 13. Raised in Winchester, she spent a few years studying art and painting boats in Bristol, where she began collaborating with long-term friends Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) and Rachael Dadd among many others on a thriving local scene. It was there that Rozi made her first two albums, 2008’s Inside Over Here and 2012’s Joined Sometimes Unjoined, each works of deliciously sad and beautiful pop full of heart-wrenching harmonies dotted with unexpected instrumental flourishes. Released in April 2015 on Lost Map and featuring contributions from Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor among others her last album Friend was a deeply meaningful and wonderfully measured ode to memory, place, companionship and music’s remarkable power as an emotional salve. A companion album of remixes, unreleased tracks and radio sessions, Friend Of A Friend, was released in 2016. In-store Grade B. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of What A Boost from us. CD | LP
