The Sherlocks Friday 4th October at Banquet Records, 6:00pm On the day that their new album is released, The Sherlocks play in the shop. Under Your Sky will mark the second full length album from the anthemic indie-rockers and follows on from their acclaimed 2017 debut full length Live For The Moment. They were last in Kingston upstairs at New Slang but now they're back to play an intimate set in the shop. By the tail end of 2018, The Sherlocks begged to be allowed back into the studio. In stark contrast to the sessions for their debut album, recorded in late-night sessions at the cut-off, rural Rockfields in Wales, this time they opted to record at Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios with The Coral’s James Skelly at the desk for the four weeks running up to Christmas, knocking off at six o’clock Monday to Friday to head into town for snooker, beer and a debrief on the day’s work. The result was a tighter, brighter, ultra-modern alt-rock record, benefiting from Skelly’s knack for focusing a killer chorus, less indebted to indie rockers of old and smattered with stylistic swerves into new wave, ‘80s textures and all-out feedback freakouts. It’s as Killers, Cars, High Flying Birds and Two Door Cinema Club as it is Catfish. A real 21st?Century guitar rock record. In-store Grade B. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Under Your Sky from us. All albums + Tickets are for collection in the shop on the day of the event. CD | LP
Keane Thursday 19th September at Pryzm, 7:00pm (ALL AGES) Marking the release of their fifth full length album titled Cause And Effect, the legendary brit-poppers Keane visit Kingston to play an all ages set ahead of their New Slang show (18+) the same night. The birth of this new album came as something of a surprise even to the band. Singer Tom Chaplin had released two successful solo albums but missed his old sparring partner Tim Rice-Oxley. “I found myself wondering how I had come to let this very enigmatic and important relationship in my life drift,” Tom says. Meanwhile Tim found his life falling apart and from the ashes had written an album’s worth of incredibly personal songs fuelled by humour as well as pain. When Tom, bassist Jesse Quin and drummer Richard Hughes heard the songs, they were immediately drawn to them both sonically and lyrically. “Hopes and Fears was a break-up album too, but it was about a break-up when I was 19,” Tim explains. “It’s a bit different when you’re older and you’ve got kids – your whole little world shifts on its axis.” CD/ticket is £18 post-paid, and other formats and combos are available. Times TBC but we expect doors at 7:00pm and Keane at 8:00pm. Albums + Tickets will be posted separately, the album's release date is 20/09/19. Indies exclusive LP is on '180g pink' coloured vinyl. Pryzm is all ages for this show - under 14s must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult (18+). Over 18s should bring PHOTO ID (driving license / passport). One True Pairing Monday 23rd September at Banquet Records, 6:00pm An in-store session to celebrate the release of the debut record from One True Pairing, the new project of Tom Fleming, formerly of Wild Beasts. One True Pairing is an album shaped by class frustration and self-despair and there is a continuation of the exploration of masculinity that made Wild Beasts so unique. As well as being deeply personal, OTP has a wider political resonance. "This country is going through a terrible moment and if you listen to the art nobody seems to give a shit,” Fleming says emphatically. He believes that class is entirely discounted from the current conversation about inclusivity and privilege. In its 11 songs of discordant guitar and aggressive synth Fleming channels his discontent with Britain in 2019 and a “feeling of directionless rage and cheatedness which hasn't gone away." Indies exclusive LP is on 180g coloured vinyl, colour TBC. Both LPs include a download code. In-store Grade C. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of One True Pairing from us. Tickets are for collection from the shop on the day of the in-store, please bring your order number with you. Albums will be posted unless you select the 'Collect in Shop' option when checking out. Nervus Monday 30th September at Banquet Records, 6:00pm Days after the release of their new album, Nervus visit Kingston to play in the shop. Tough Crowd will make the third full length release from the Watford-based indie-punks, signed to Big Scary Monsters and follows on from their awesome 2018 record Everything Dies. This will be the band's first Banquet in-store and we can't wait to have them here. If you're into the likes of Against Me!, Alkaline Trio or Milk Teeth should be into this. Where once, songwriter-in-chief Em Foster (vocals/guitar) furiously wrote and recorded songs in her bedroom, as a type of personal catharsis, looking at the personal, and then the immediate politics of identity, gender and queerness - this third album took a different journey, using a whole new collaborative process and approach. As a result, this their third record, speaks differently to their older work. Indies exclusive LP is on 'frosted clear w/ red splatter' coloured vinyl. In-store Grade B. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Tough Crowd from us. Albums will be posted, tickets are for collection from the shop on the day of the in-store, please bring your order number with you. The Album is released 27th September. CD | LP

Grayscale Sunday 20th October at Banquet Records, 4:00pm To celebrate the release of the second full length album titled Nella Vita, Philadelphia's cathartic pop-punkers Grayscale play in the shop for the first time whilst on their UK tour. Whether it be backseat post-coital promises between young lovers, the aftershocks of a parent’s addiction on a child, or a proclamation to celebrate life before death, these moments echo with the sincerity of a chat among best friends in the music of Grayscale. The Philadelphia quintet—Collin Walsh [vocals], Dallas Molster [guitar, vocals], Andrew Kyne [guitar], Nick Ventimiglia [bass], and Nick Veno [drums]—align nostalgic confessions, nineties alternative homage, and 21st century playlist-busting ambition on their second full-length, Nella Vita [Fearless Records], which translates to “In Life” from Italian. These twelve tracks urge pensive pondering, rock catharsis, and danceable elation all at once. In-store Grade B. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Nella Vita from us. Tickets for collection at our shop on the day of the in-store, please bring your order number with you. Albums will be posted unless you select 'Collect At Shop' when checking out. CD | LP
