James Arthur / Signing Session Thursday 24th October at Banquet Records, 6:00pm Just after the release of his third full length album titled 'You', the singer-songwriter James Arthur visits Kingston for a signing session in the shop. You features a big range of guest spots from the likes of Adam Lazarra, Ty Dolla $ign, Shotty and Travis Barker. My last album was very much introspective and autobiographical. This one is made to feel more inclusive and more about YOU. It’s inspired by other people... For me the challenge is always selecting the songs that make the final cut. Two or three years of writing condensed into one record. It’s got to be coherent and flow nicely. That’s always the challenge for me personally. I’m really happy with the track-listing for this album. 6pm start with all ages welcome. In-store Grade B. Anyone is welcome to come but priority will go to those who order You from us. Albums and tickets are for collection at our shop on the evening of the signing. Please bring your order number with you. CD New In
David Ellis Friday 25th October at Banquet Records, 6:00pm The self-proclaimed 'Pagan Rock' artist David Ellis visits the shop to celebrate the release of 'Misty Heights', his debut solo album away from his work in Razorlight. The self-proclaimed ‘Pagan Rock’ artist cleverly sews together earthy rhythms with heartfelt melodies and impassioned singing. Written about his journey on the search for happiness, his positive approach to ‘Eyes To The Sky’ is a wonderful introduction to Ellis’ sanguine sound. Speaking of ‘Eyes to the Sky’, Ellis explains: “’Eyes to the Sky’ was written at a time where I regained a youthful wonderment towards life after spending many years searching for happiness in all the wrong places.” In-store Grade C. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Misty Heights from us. Tickets are for collection from the shop on the day of the in-store, please bring your order number with you. Albums will be posted unless you select the 'Collect in Shop' option when checking out. CD | LP
Liz Lawrence Saturday 26th October at Banquet Records, 6:00pm The day after the release of her new album titled Pity Party, Liz Lawrence stops by the shop. You'll recognise her as a longtime collaborator / touring member of Bombay Bicycle Club. 'Pity Party' is the new album from Liz Lawrence. Liz dug deep and discovered her own sound, taught herself how to produce and soon realised that she had become good enough to make her own music in the way she wanted to make it, on her own terms. The fruits of her labour are brought together for this new album. She wrote six of the songs in just five days (while holed up in a dilapidated friends’ house in Cornwall) - proving that forcing herself out of her comfort zone and embracing a solitary existence - for a short time at least- reaped huge benefits for her personally and musically. In-store Grade B. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Pity Party from us. Indies exclusive LP is on white vinyl. Albums and tickets for collection at our shop on the day of the in-store, please bring your order number with you. CD | LP
Half Moon Run Monday 4th November at Banquet Records, 6:00pm In the week that their new album is released, Half Moon Run play in the shop. The highly anticipated third full length album from the dreamy-folk rock group is titled A Blemish In The Great Light and is sure to feature more of their stunning songwriting. The word everyone comes back to when describing Montreal indie rockers Half Moon Run is "complex" (The Guardian, Exclaim, et al.) Whether they're billed as dreamy alt-pop, bucolic alt-folk, or psychedelic indie rock, the four multi-instrumentalists—Devon Portielje (vocals, guitar, piano, percussion), Conner Molander (vocals, guitar, keyboard, piano, pedal steel, bass, harmonica), Dylan Phillips (vocals, drums, piano, keyboard), and Isaac Symonds (vocals, drums, mandolin, synth, bass)—have built their name on cerebral, acrobatic arrangements and harmonies that lilt prettily till they turn feral. Their first album, Dark Eyes, placed two A-list singles on BBC Radio 1 and went platinum in Canada, earning them a nod as a Rolling Stone "band to watch." They followed up with Canadian Gold Record Sun Leads Me On (Glassnote), which had them touring furiously through Europe and North America and got them a Juno nod for Breakthrough Group of the Year in 2016. In-store Grade B. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of A Blemish In The Great Light from us. Indies exclusive LP is on 'smoke / marbled' coloured vinyl. Tickets are for collection from the shop on the day of the in-store, please bring your order number with you. Albums will be posted unless you select the 'Collect in Shop' option when checking out. The Album is released 1st November. CD | LP New In
Sunset Sons Wednesday 6th November at Banquet Records, 6:00pm Just after the release of their second full length album titled Blood Rush Deja Vu, the dreamy, anthemic-fuelled indie rockers Sunset Sons visit the shop for an in-store set. The album shows a more mature, dark and urgent side of the band, whilst keeping to their trademark festival anthemic rock and laid back dreamy beach retrospectives. The album has been produced by Grammy winning and ‘MPG Producer of the Year 2018’ Catherine Marks (Foals, Wolf Alice, The Amazons) and features 10 new tracks (including an exclusive track for physical formats only). Blood Rush Déjà Vu was recorded between their adopted hometown, the surf commune of Hossegor on the south-west Atlantic coast of France and Kensaltown Studios in London. In-store Grade B. Bellevue Days Friday 22nd November at Banquet Records, 6:00pm To celebrate the release of their debut album, Bellevue Days play in the shop on the day of its release. The debut full length record from the Croydon based alt-rockers is titled It Can't Possibly Go Wrong Ever, offering up an infectious mix of modern British rock with indie-punk sounds. If you're into the likes of Lower Than Atlantis, Mallory Knox, Deaf Havana or Biffy Clyro then you should definitely check this out. “It seems like the whole world is kinda falling apart in every direction you look, doesn’t it?” vocalist Alan Smith comments. “For me personally, I took a long look at the world around me and I just kinda realised how f*cked up it’s become. I usually try to steer away from politics in music; I ain’t no Bob Dylan (just yet). I find it hard not to put my personal experiences and feelings into songs—from depression, to family issues, to deaths - as that’s usually the only thing I can really go off, but on this record there are a few more stories which I imagine from other people’s points of view, which was an interesting and refreshing perspective.” In-store Grade C, come on down. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of It Can't Possibly Go Wrong Ever from us. All albums + Tickets are for collection in the shop on the day of the event. CD | LP
Vinnie Caruana Sunday 15th December at Banquet Records, Midday With his new solo EP out now, Vinnie Caruana plays an acoustic set in the shop. You'll recognise Vinnie as the frontman of The Movielife and I Am The Avalanche and we're delighted to welcome him back to the shop in celebration of his new solo EP Aging Frontman. Not afraid to take himself too seriously with the title and cover artwork, the personal EP is his most accomplished and poignant solo release to date. Vinnie has this to share: “This is as personal as I’ve ever been with the listener. The people who listen to my music know me. I’ve personally met most of them at shows and we have a relationship. This is just another layer. I’m still looking for answers. We all are. We have to keep finding the beauty in life, no matter how hard life can sometimes make it for us. I want to keep being the best version of myself until I die.” This never-ending desire to find and hold on to beauty and peace of mind, despite the chaos and frequent ugliness of the world we all live in, is something that has always inspired Caruana to write and perform music, and to connect with his fans and this record is without a doubt the finest distillation of that ethos, and of Caruana’s formidable talent as a singer/songwriter. In-store Grade C. Priority will be given to anyone who orders a copy of Aging Frontman from us. All albums + Tickets are for collection in the shop on the day of the event. 12"
