Black Honey / Socially Distanced Show Thursday 24th June at Pryzm, 8:00pm This is a socially distanced, seated show. It follows their outstanding self-titled debut released back in 2018 when the world that surrounded the Brighton fourpiece looked and felt like a very different place. Black Honey however are still the bad-ass, truly original band they have always been, they’ve just graduated from the intriguingly anomalous newcomers to becoming one of UK indie’s most singular outfits. They've travelled the world and released a Top 40 album; graced the cover of the NME and become the faces and soundtrack of Roberto Cavalli's Milan Fashion Week show; smashed Glastonbury and supported Queens of the Stone Age, all without compromising a shred of the wild, wicked vision they first set out with. It's now time for the next instalment of their story – ‘Written & Directed” – which see’s Black Honey deliver one, very singular, message – a 10 track mission statement that aims to unashamedly plant a flag in the ground for strong, world-conquering women. For fierce frontwoman and album protagonist Izzy B. Phillips – it’s the most important message she could send to inspire her cult-like fanbase and fill the female-shaped gap that she felt so acutely when she was growing up and discovering rock music for the first time. - Times TBC but we expect doors at 8:00pm. Beartooth Monday 28th June at In Conversation on Zoom, 7:00pm To celebrate the release of their fourth full length album titled Below, Beartooth link up for a live conversation + Q&A on Zoom. This is a limited numbers event /300. Like few rock bands today, BEARTOOTH harness the sacred and profane, and purge inner darkness with a dizzying light. Steadily, without pretension, the fearlessly determined and boundlessly creative Midwest powerhouse perfects a sound sought by a generation of bands, equal parts solitary musical confession and celebratory exorcism. Their marriage of colossally catchy choruses and post-hardcore- soaked-in-sweaty-metal is without rival. Its effect is evident by their deeply engaged audience; tours with Slipknot, Bring Me The Horizon, and A Day To Remember; and a RIAA-certified gold plaque. Below revels in the darker underbelly of traditional metal, soaked in stoner rock tones and doomy dirge. BEARTOOTH offer no cure. The recovery comes in the process; the journey is the destination. Boasting euphoric house-piano, seamless vocal chops and an ever evolving bassline, the new offering is the perfect introduction to their latest body of work. With Kye now residing in the birthplace of house music, Chicago, and Matt remaining in London, the creation of ‘Olympia’ marked a career first for the duo, having produced the project from entirely separate continents - but that has not dimmed their light. An album shrouded in Greek mythology, ‘Olympia’ is an eclectic and euphoric mix of past and present, it’s a celebration of musical worlds coming together, with 90’s house blending seamlessly with 2020’s finest pop. ‘Olympia’ is a collaborative piece of work showcasing Gorgon City’s strength in discovering and developing vocal talents that are genre-spanning and varied. The Pale White are a three piece indie rock band from Newcastle, UK comprised of brothers Adam (Lead Vocals, Guitar) and Jack Hope (Drums), and long time friend Tom Booth (Bass). The trio have fast been gaining attention for their signature melodic guitar work, thunderous rhythm section and magnetic live shows. Across a series of early singles and two EP releases, the band have continued to gain high profile support from the likes of NME, MTV and BBC Introducing, and after securing BBC Introducing's Track Of The Week, the band were invited to play stages at Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds. With a five star live review from The Independent comparing them to US rock royalty Queens Of The Stone Age, the groups reputation as an unmissable live act has started to spread. Over the last few years, the group have paved their own way via a catalogue bursting with introspective, escapist, outsider-anthems. Their effortlessly accomplished mixtapes – ‘creature habits’, ‘spaceships’, and ‘junk food’ (which featured their only duet to date, Arlo Parks) – have led the rascal band of brothers to debut album, ‘life’s a beach’: a title that makes total sense, argues Murray, when you’re “from slap bang in the middle of the country, geographically as far from the nearest seaside as possible.” The beach of ‘life’s a beach’ is not, then, a Caribbean hideaway. It’s Margate and Morecombe, the postcard imagery of Martin Parr, the swimming pool of Sexy Beast. Observational, universal and deeply personal, this rounded study of forgotten Britain is the record easy life have spent their young lives working towards. Arlo Parks Tuesday 10th August at Pryzm, 8:00pm In celebration of the release of her highly anticipated debut full length album titled Collapsed In Sunbeams, the excellent breakout artist Arlo Parks visits Kingston to play at Pryzm. Speaking about her LP, Arlo says "My album is a series of vignettes and intimate portraits surrounding my adolescence and the people that shaped it. It is rooted in storytelling and nostalgia - I want it to feel both universal and hyper specific." Caskets Saturday 14th August at Zoom Session + Q&A, 7:00pm Celebrating the release of their new album titled Lost Souls, the post-hardcore / metal outfit Caskets link up for an acoustic session on Zoom with a Q&A. This is a limited numbers event /300. Teaming up with producer Dan Weller, the man behind works by Holding Absence, Dream State, Enter Shikari and Bury Tomorrow among others, Caskets harness this environment to capture a mix of crisp atmospherics and raw emotion; perfectly mirroring its unusual creation. The album retains the immediacy of their acclaimed ‘Ghost Like You’ EP, but sees the band secure its impact in places other than heavy riffs and crushing guitars. The mellower moments, underpinned by strings and pianos, allow space for emotion. “There’s stuff you don’t expect to happen,” Matt adds. “I’m really excited for people to hear it and be like, I didn’t see that coming. Today, Conor O'Brien is pleased to announce Villagers' fifth studio album Fever Dreams which will be released on August 20th via Domino. Escapism is a very necessary pursuit right now, and Fever Dreams follows it to mesmerising effect. It works like all the best records - it becomes a mode of transport; it picks you up from where you are and sets you down elsewhere. Coinciding with the announcement, O’Brien has also shared the first song from the forthcoming album, “The First Day”. It was inspired by a trip to the fabled Another Love Story festival in County Meath – beginning as a snatched electronic doodle, it morphed into a widescreen, lushly cinematic evocation of the joy in human connection. Mike Rosenberg, better known as Passenger, is a multi-award winning, platinum-selling singer-songwriter from Brighton, England. Although still known for his busking, he long ago made the journey from street corners to stadiums – most notably with 'Let Her Go', which reached number 1 in 19 countries. Yet ‘Let Her Go’ is just one song from a remarkable back catalogue that extends across multiple albums – including Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea, which topped the charts in the UK and elsewhere. The consistency of his output, coupled with his authenticity both on and off stage, has won Rosenberg a global fanbase and given him the chance to headline some of the world’s most famous stages. Rosenberg’s latest album, Songs for the Drunk and Broken-Hearted, is his thirteenth to date. He thought it was ready to go in early 2020, but then the covid-19 pandemic turned the world upside down. The majority of the album had been written when Rosenberg was newly single and many of the songs are populated by drunk and broken-hearted characters with the album being about heartbreak across the board.
