Following the release of their highly anticipated eighth full length album titled Giant Of All Sizes, Elbow play a stripped back set at New Slang.
Guy Garvey describes the album as “an angry, old blue lament which finds its salvation in family, friends, the band and new life.” It is a record that lyrically takes in moments of deep personal loss whilst reflecting its times by confronting head-on the spectres of injustice and division not just in the UK but across the world. It is a record that could only have been made in the 21st Century.
Given such bleak, if ultimately redeemed, subject matter, it is also, perversely, the most relaxed record which elbow have made in some time. On ‘Giants of All Sizes’, each band member extended their usual process of working on demos alone and followed their vision to its conclusion rather than, as Craig Potter puts it, ‘taking the edges off things to find compromise’. In tandem with this, they returned to playing live in the studio, encouraged to experiment with the banks of analogue equipment at Clouds Hill in Northern Germany, giving songs a looser, more live feel.
We'll be operating on a reduced capacity on this one to make it more intimate and special.
CD/ticket is £20 post-paid, and other formats and combos are available.
To combat touts, customers will be required to give their name when purchasing tickets and will be required to produce photo ID matching that name for entry to the gig. Tickets are not transferable.
The name of the lead booker will be on all tickets. Where more than one ticket has been purchased, all guests in the party must enter the venue together. To gain entry to the show, the lead booker must bring the tickets along with valid photo ID matching the name on the tickets.
New Slang is an over 18s event, and is strict on ID. Please bring photo ID with you on the night, whatever age you are.
Times TBC but we expect doors at 9:00pm and Elbow at 9:45pm. This is TBC so do check back.
After the show, it's New Slang as usual where you can expect to hear songs from the likes of Mystery Jets, The 1975, Everything Everything, The Vaccines, Wolf Alice, The Cribs, Circa Waves and many more until 2AM.
Albums + Tickets will be sent together, the album's release date is 11th October. Indies exclusive LP is on 'seagrass' coloured vinyl.
New Slang is held at Pryzm, 154 Clarence St, Kingston upon Thames KT1 1QP
