Say Anything

Vampire Weekend - Contra

The biggest event for us at Banquet world in January was from Vampire Weekend.  Boss' privilidges means jt's got dibs on this as album of the month.  A brilliant second album in 'Contra'; the band played for us at our first proper New Slang back at The Hippodrome (formerly The Works) and it was arguably one of the best ever. The show was absolutely packed and the band played a superb set including new single and New Slang fave 'Cousins'!

Bombing

The Bombist - The Bombing

Mike has been grooving into the New Year with some stunning knitwear and this sweet compilation of Reggae Bootlegs to keep warm in this snowy January. 'The Bombing' is a compilation of some of those very limited incredible Bombist reggae 7"s that never hang around long in the shop from Bost & Bim aka The Bombist, well good.

Dave House

Eels - End Times

It's a little known fact that Dave House hates January, like loads. In light of this Dave found it hard to enjoy music but managed to muster a smile for this eighth studio album from Eels. Between shouting and packing oversized ebay items he has also started what is sure to be an illustrious career in Basketball...

Canterbury

Owen Pallett - Heartland

Jane goes for the third record by Owen Pallett who reverts to his own name after being known as Final Fantasy. This is a bit of an epic with it's orchestral feel and a far more serious tone than previous albums. Speaking of serious Jane has been too busy this month to play Animal Crossing on the wii and is too scared to check what carnage has taken place in her absense.

Fourtet

Four Tet - There Is Love In You

Aaron goes for the new album from Four Tet. Kieran Hebden's first full length in almost 4 years proves he's still got it with the massive lead single 'Love Cry' included and Aaron has been loving it. He has also been loving Creme Eggs and ate 4 in a row the other day. Mental.

Kurran

The XX - VCR

Milly has yet again gone for a single over an album picking the excellent 'VCR' by The XX. She argues that "all the good albums have been taken by other people and I heart The XX and reeeeally want them to play Banquet/ New Slang". Would have to agree with her on that but she should have claimed an album quicker instead of day dreaming about new episodes of Lost.

Sub Focus

Reso - Extended Play

Piers just makes the cut off with this brand spanking new double 12" of techy dubstep with a grimey funk feel. On first listen he said "some of the most amazing production i've ever heard and it's well varied" and you can't argue with Piers or he will tell you what a Monkey face and a Scotch Egg is (you don't wanna know).

Weezer

A Wilhelm Scream - S/T

Tom has gone for long overdue new material from the almost too awesome to be true A Wilhelm Scream. This self-titled EP is 5 tracks of the usual Wilhelm mayhem, plus one track has Tiger in the title which is always good. The band play The Peel in May and you can grab this release with a ticket for just 13 quid, bargain central.

Local Natives

You Me At Six - Hold Me Down

Ollie has had a hectic month with mailorders coming thick and fast and the opening of New Slang Staines but he has always had time for 'Underdog' by You Me At Six taken from the local pop punkers ace new album. He sings it at least 5 times a day to make up for his hatred of fruit and veg. This month the band played a show for us on the day their second album was released and it was great. Check out some photos here.

Tubelord

Good Shoes - No Hope, No Future

Harry didn't even have to think twice about his album of the month saying "Definitely Good Shoes, proper British massive sound, sick second album" and he is right. The band played instore and at New Slang for us this month and never disappoint with their infectious catchy, indie.

JOFO

Delphic - Acolyte

Salty was quick on the draw grabbing this as his album of the month before anyone else got a look in. Super cool, electro poppy New order style stuff with a hint of Bloc Party, the album lives up to the buzz of the first few singles. Adam revealed that his surname is infact Sait and not Salt much to the outrage of Dave House.

The Skints

Fucked Up - Couple Tracks

'Couple Tracks', The special collection from in your face punkers Fucked Up has caught Sean's attention this month featuring rare and unreleased tracks. Speaking of rare Sean has barely shown his face in the upstairs office this month instead choosing to spend his time hanging out with new best friend Dennis who loves a bit of Vampire Weekend. Don't we all Dennis, Don't we all.
