This is Gabriel and the Hounds (aka Gabriel Levie front man of Takka Takka)'s debut release. He enlisted the help of some friends for this record. A variety of performers working directly in or with the likes of The National, Beirut, St Vincent, Sufjan Stevens, tUnE-yArDs, Bjork, and Jonsi all feature throughout the record.
Armed with a guitar, bass and drums augmented by woodwind, French horn, trumpet, violin, trombone, cello and flute. The songs are, says Levine, "about disappointment, letting go and the inevitability of endings, those of relationships, youth and innocence" while the project as a whole was apparently inspired by Kate Bush's Hounds of Love.
There are definite nods to bands like The Shins sprinkled all over this record and its a glorious and satisfying album.
