Aus Music returns with the much anticipated Ramadanman & Appleblim single "Void 23", which comes complete with a re-edit from one of the cornerstones of electronic music - Carl Craig. The original track, which featured on Damian Lazarus' just released Fabric compilation, further fuses the production sensibilities of dubstep with the sounds and vibes of techno to devastating effect. "Void 23" has a squelchy, alien sound palette similar to "Bubbletease"-era Drexciya. With an unrestrained funk contrasting against very digital, manipulated sounds. Against a superbly long arrangement, R & A tease out various elements over some bubbling breakdowns and extended drops. Simmering away for the first three minutes or so, the track really starts peaking halfway through when this incessant, nagging synth hook opens right up. This is gonna absolutely destroy any smoke-filled, discoid mainroom. So very, very huge!
Carl Craig delivers more than just a re-edit, changing the rhythm structure of the original to enable it to work in peak time house and techno settings. Oozing with all the intricate nuances that define a c2 production / remix, Craig keeps the nagging hook of the original but layers up a multitude of tribal drums, endless reverbs, vocal snippets and one monstrous mother of a drop. Sonic genius which will keep the whole dancefloor happy with its wigged-out minimalism. Probably soundtracking some Monday afternoon carry on / sex party in Kreutzberg as you read this.
